This nicely designed restaurant features a traditional style and offers a variety of dishes, primarily focusing on Bulgarian and other regional cuisines. The main courses are generally good, especially the shashlik, which boasts tender, marinated meat that remains soft and delicate after grilling. However, there was a significant issue with the quality of the olive oil used by the kitchen in the salads during our two visits. The oil tasted stale—greasy, waxy, and off-putting—lacking the fresh, peppery, and fruity notes of high-quality olive oil, which rendered the salads virtually inedible. Even an amateur chef should check the quality of their ingredients daily, let alone the underworked “professional” chefs which Sofra claims to employ. Despite bringing this to the attention of the waiter, we were met with complete indifference. Even with only ten guests in the restaurant, there was no acknowledgment of our complaint, no apology, nobody from the kitchen came to speak to us and there was no offer to replace the salads. The chefs were not busy at all and preferred to spend their time chatting with the waitresses rather than walk the 20 metres from the kitchen to our table to address our complaint. It is very disappointing to see customers treated this way and given this experience, I will not be wasting 400 lv. at Sofra, Kings Valley Hotel in the future.
