A cozy resort with touches of traditional Javanese architecture and designs. Clean rooms, nothing too fancy but comfortable enough with hot shower (both indoor and outdoor!), wifi, and a kitchenette attached. Friendly, accommodating staffs. Varied, delicious breakfast menu everyday (can be delivered to your bungalow’s porch upon request). Bicycles to ride around the surrounding villages with no additional charge (on a “first come, first served” basis). Location-wise, it’s pretty remote from the city centers, and this can be a double-edged sword—it’s so quiet it feels like you’re in your own private sanctuary, but it can also be a bit of a hassle to reach “civilization” when you need to. It’s close to many ancient temples from Indonesia’s Hindu-Buddhist past, though, so it’s another plus if you’re a history buff like me. I recommend Joglo Ayem Tentrem to anyone looking for a pause from the hustle and bustle of city life with affordable budget to spend. I hope I can stay there again on my future trip(s) to Yogyakarta.
