Just driving up to the front of the house was an experience. Beautiful architecture, rod iron fence, immaculate yard with massive trees. Nicole greeted us at the front door with a smile. We instantly felt at home. After entering the home we were provided with a little history of the house and past owners. While our conversation was ongoing, we met Tommy, Nicole’s husband. After meeting the proprietors, Nicole directed us up stairs to our room. The room was spacious, clean and another amazing example of beautiful architecture (hand painted ceiling). Nicole provided us with a key to the room and the front door and left us to our room. The next morning we met downstairs in the dining room for breakfast. Even though I couldn’t pronounce the dish that Nicole and Tommy prepared (French something or other) let me just say I was temped to lick the plate. The apple tart to begin the meal was absolutely fantastic (I could have made a meal of three tarts). Nicole joined us in the dining room and provided more information about the house, the furniture and the town of Jefferson. After breakfast we decided to sit in the front living room and listen to classical music and just relax. It was an awesome experience knowing that the house was built in the 1890’s and what kind of gatherings they must have had in the very same room. Tommy and Nicole joined us in the living room and we discussed the house, the town and the steamboats that carried goods to and from Jefferson. We must have talked for 45 minutes. Tommy and Nicole are fantastic hosts and wonderful people. My girlfriend and I have already decided to go back when spring comes around. We will be staying at the Benefield House B&B.
