Black Desert Resort

Golf was great, but the resort locked amenities that normally give you a luxury resort experience. The pool was almost an afterthought. With all the beautiful lava rock around you think they would have built a nice waterfall in the pool. instead, the pool was very boring. There were no drinks allowed at the pool. The spa wasn't open when we were there. They said you could book at their sister Resort down the road. However, there were no Spa appointments available for the entire week... big fail on that one. You are not allowed to bring drinks to the room. Also, there was no room service at all. The Basalt restaurant was ridiculously overpriced and nothing we ordered was all that special. The earliest any of the bar / restaurants opened was 3:00 p.m. If you finished your round by 1:00 p.m. there was nowhere to have drinks or hang out. The resort is still under construction, so there's not yet shopping or other amenities nearby...those are several years away. Utah is also very strict with alcohol laws. You can't order someone to drink unless they're present. Also, you can't have more than two drinks without ordering food. So, golf = A, resort = D

While the resort is opened, it shouldn't be. The restaurants are a joke. Even though the information in the room says one of the restaurants serves food, don't believe it. It's a bar and only snacks are available. And don't even think about room service--there is none. Getting breakfast at 6:00 am is impossible--nothing is opened. The rooms are ok, but whoever designed the bathroom obviously doesn't share one with anyone. The sink towel bar is attached smack dab in front of the sink so you're banging into it when you're using the sink. And it's a vessel sink--not my favorite for practical purposes. The shower is nice, but there is a frosted glass panel in it that when the lights are on shines into the room. If there are 2 people, the one sleeping will have light shining on them. There is a Sub Zero fridge in the room which is nice. It's pretty big and empty so you can bring stuff and keep it cold. The workout facility is very well laid out and had a ton of equipment. Probably one of the highlights of the resort. The spa wasn't opened yet, but they said it would be in June 2025. And I have never been to any hotel/resort anywhere in the world that didn't have a gift shop. The staff was accommodating and housekeeping did anything I asked. Would I go back or recommend the property to anyone--no.

There is not an Infinity Pool or Swim-Up Bar. There is no Spa and no opening date either. There are no restaurants open between the hours of 2-4pm or after 9pm. The coffee stand in the lobby runs out of quick food items around 8am daily. There is not a bar open past 9pm either. As for the rooms, our room looked at a concrete wall. Supposedly Latitude Restaurant is open until 3pm but they will not seat you after 2 pm as we found out the prior day. So we got to the restaurant at 1:45pm and could not get a Prosecco because we missed “Last call”. Last call at a restaurant in the middle of the day??? The lobby bar has limited choices, no Jameson or Tanqueray but also no ability to make cocktails not on the menu like an Old Fashioned or Sangria. There is a lot of construction everywhere but that was the least of our concerns. Two things positive, the scenery on the golf course is stunning and Basalt Restaurant was superb.

A work in progress. We knew when we booked this resort would still be under construction . We got a great rate because of it. The room is very nice and comfortable . Lots of room types and options. Front desk staff very nice but they need to be more informative with the 101. Lot’s of options to eat from one high end restaurant Basalt. Service was amazing, food was not 5 star as we expected . Your meal is all a la cart, so be prepared to pay for all your sides. We started with a shared Caesar salad, very good as well as a $30 crab cake, yes we split one . Not that great for what we paid and expected . My steak was excellent, my wife had an issue with her meal, the server handled it well . We asked to speak to the manger, she was not very good at her job. We spoke to the front desk and the hotel manager who gave my wife her direct phone number and made it right . The valet service is fantastic all the people are very well trained. We found out this service is contracted out. You have a park yourself option as well . This is a big golf resort and the front desk knew very little about the golf . Pro shop staff were outstanding. Very well stocked at high prices . The golf experience was amazing, we had a great caddie (mandatory) Mike Long very helpful with a great personality . TrackMan on the range was great and a monster 36 hole putting green. The 19th. Hole tiebreaker hole 60-80 yards is a fun way to end the day . Back to dining, we had a great breakfast at latitude the day we did not golf. Staff and food were great . Best atmosphere is at 20th hole restaurant, lots of T.V’s , several simulators to play golf. Food and service here was outstanding. The LPGA will be there in May and PGA is back in October . Black Diamond is a wonderful experience, they have a long way to go to be a leading 5 star resort. Staff training is really needed to live up to that status. The golf part of the resort is certainly at that 5 star level of service and experience .

We had a relaxing stay considering the resort is still under construction. The staff is still on a learning curve. Beautiful grounds. Golf course was excellent. Valet was attentive . We will return when resort is complete & spa is finished.

Amazing bedding and furnishings, I slept the best in years. Stunning views and tons of activities. We will stay longer next time, there is so much to do. The golf check in was only steps from my room. Loved the keurig coffee in the room. All the premium TV channels filled down time. The 20th hole restaurant was super convenient for amazing casual eats.
