We arrived at the hotel around midnight to nobody on reception. After 20 minutes of ringing the bell on the desk, the “manager” came to “check us in” he told us that there was one room in the hotel and another in another building. We had booked 2 family rooms as a family of 8 and explained that we weren’t going to be split up. He kept saying 1 minute and then leaving the hotel with no explanation then coming back and saying the same thing. We questioned why there weren’t 2 rooms for us as that was what we had booked, we were told the hotel was full. The manager then said we could all stay in the other building and our second room in the hotel would be available at 12pm the next day. As it was 1am at this point, we agreed and he took us to a building a couple of streets away. The building had no sign outside and the front door was open. We were shown 2 apartments in the building which reeked of smoke. The pillows and sheets were filthy, no towels and no hot water. One of the rooms had what he described as a sofa bed, this was just some foam with a sheet over it. With no other option, we spent the night there. The next morning I went to the hotel to get the key for the one room that we were told was ready for us the night before so we could put our cases in and go out for the day. Again there was nobody on reception, only staff that didn’t speak English lounging around on the seating area. I waited 19 minutes for someone to come, he didn’t understand what I wanted and so phoned the “manager”. The manager said the rooms would be ready at 12, I said we wanted the keys for the room that was ready for us the night before, the manager said he would come to the hotel in 2 minutes. After waiting another 10 minutes another guy came and said the manager wasn’t coming and there was no room available, we left our cases in the apartment and asked for breakfast. We were then taken down the street to a cafe that smelled of cat urine and told to order something. When we returned to the hotel later that afternoon, we were told our rooms were ready. The rooms were in the basement and were worse than the apartments we stayed in the night before. There was black mould all over the walls, dirty sheets, the bathroom smelled of sewage, hair on the beds and the floor and the wallpaper had been ripped off. We decided not to stay there and to pay for somewhere else. When we went back to the apartment to get our cases, the apartment doors were wide open as was the front door to the apartments. We checked into a hotel that the rest of our group were staying in which was worlds apart from the hellhole. From that hotel’s rooftop terrace we could see the apartments, every night we could see other people in there. Do not book this hotel, it’s an absolute rip off and needs a wrecking ball. I can recommend the miss royal hotel and spa which is where we spent the rest of our stay. We still had a great time in Istanbul but ended up losing a nights sleep and a day of our short trip
