We had a very relaxing 2 night deal here that included dinner one night, afternoon tea one day, plus tickets to Dunnotar Castle. It is a stunning hotel with welcoming and comfortable furniture and our room was very well appointed. There are some decor issues but it didn’t affect us. All the staff were very friendly, cheerful, attentive and helpful. The hotel is purported to be 4* but the food let it down. The dinner menu has limited choice, made worse by being told the blade of beef was not available and the chicken didn’t come with dauphinois potatoes. At breakfast on the second morning the poached egg yolk was hard and the scrambled egg had no taste. At breakfast on the third morning the bacon was dry and the tatty scones were like leather, and again the fried egg yolks were hard. We would need to see an improvement in the catering before we consider staying again.
