I stayed at this hotel as part of a photographic group of 16 people in Ilulissat, Greenland. Upon arrival and check-in--(which I understood was 3 pm and I was early) I was greeted by a relatively unfriendly individual,( I believe his name was Axel), who rudely told me it was impossible to check in any earlier than our allotted time. I was okay with that but not with his lack of hospitality skills. I had the unfortunate displeasure of dealing with him on a few more occasions during my 5-day stay and at no time did his skills show any signs of improvement with me or any other guest I witnessed him speaking ”down to.” I was provided a standard room (200 wing) which had a nice view of the water, icebergs, and boats. The room had two single beds moved together to provide a queen. There was a desk and chair. The room was small but adequate for one person, and probably a bit tight for two. The bathroom was also small but again adequate and clean. Very limited soap, body gel, and shampoo. If you do stay here I would suggest bringing your supplies if you have personal preferences for the items you use. The towels were okay but not soft and thick. One window in the room was able to be opened. Dark-out curtains were provided for our 24 hours of daylight. Breakfast offerings included soft/hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fruit, cereal, yogurt, fresh juices, freshly baked sweets and bread, and good Greenlandic coffee. Items were regularly refreshed. Lunch and Dinners at the hotel were very good with an assortment of items to choose from. One night there was a wonderful buffet that included native specialties: muskox, reindeer, whale, seal, halibut--fresh and smoked, king crab legs, Greenlandic shrimp, assorted salads, fresh cooked whole grain breads, fresh baked desserts. the meal was truly a beautiful and delicious buffet of native foods. There are a few employees of this hotel who really stood out and bent over backward to assist in making this hotel a pleasure to stay in. I needed to spend one more evening here before my departure. ( I did have a reservation at another hotel but staying would save me from packing and unpacking to move). Axel repeatedly told me that obtaining a room for the night was impossible as they were fully sold out--- however, I knew there were flight cancellations due to the weather and therefore would have room availability. After being told one more time, ”not possible” I went to the desk later to recheck. There was a gentleman named Kasper who managed to find a room not only for myself but others who were traveling with me. He was a king among kings. Not only did he exemplify true hospitality skills, but he was also a gentleman. He was patient and polite with everyone. He found each of our rooms by simply taking the time to look for them, something Axel didn't bother to do. Given the remoteness of Ilulissat, climate challenges and an impossible supply chain, I was expecting to find a somewhat rustic hotel which would probably keep us warm most nights...this Best Western was anything but that. Our 5 days there were exceptional. The breakfasts were fresher than fresh and more elegant than 5-star hotels I've stayed at in Paris, Zurich and Venice. The rooms and public spaces were kept very clean, it has a great location, and friendly staff. A big plus is the travel agent desk set up right next to the hotel front desk. This company is owned and operated by locals and they can get you hooked into all the sights worth seeing and doing.

El hotel más peor que he experimentado en mis últimos dos años (más de 100 hoteles). El personal del hotel fue rudo y mal entrenado, incapaz de responder preguntas y confuso con las preguntas más simples. La habitación era dumpa. La mayoría de los excursiones no funcionaron. El Wifi no funcionaba. La habitación no estaba equipada con suficientes mantas o cucharas. Las chicas que trabajaban en el escritorio delantero eran particularmente rudas, lazy y pasivas agresivas. Eran mal entrenadas y no podían hacer frente a las demandas básicas. La joven empleada de la mesa delantera se volvió a sentir enojada cuando me di cuenta de que no podía prestar ninguna ayuda y que jugó a la víctima. No daría su nombre (que me dice que sabía que tenía razón para vergüenza) y se retorció, “Sé que estás frustrado, pero no puedo ayudarte. ” Una vez que el personal del hotel me dieron las horas equivocadas para la comida, me negó la cena, el almuerzo y el desayuno por causa de la “cucina cerrada”. El personal del hotel estaba en el hotel cerca de las horas de comida, no pudo ofrecer una habitación funcional con energía y agua funcional. Mentían sobre la información falsa que proporcionaron, y cuando me di cuenta, pretendían que el problema era realmente “mi tono”. Como mi primera visita a Ilulissat y a Groenlandia, este hotel hizo un trabajo profundo de avergonzar a su nación y comunidad. El hotel Hvird Falk ha dado una terrible primera impresión a un visitante de este hermoso continente.

I stayed here for only one night but had a great stay. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is varied and filling. They did a good job at making sure the coffee was refilled. My room was comfortable and clean. It had a TV with cable that was nice. My only issue is that it is far (in my opinion) from the town center so you have to calculate that into your travel plans.

We did book in February by ********** for two times two nights end of June. The night in between we did stay at the Eqi Lodge. We did get some major issues with this hotel, but I do not know who to blame; the hotel or **********. First we did charge 310 DDK (~ 44 euro) more as booked by ********** Because it is not possible to complain by ********** except by telephone (only an option when you like to wait forever) I do not know who to blame. But if you want to book this hotel, pay in advance. We were not picked up by the airport. We did need to arrange (and pay) a taxi ourselves. According the hotel there was a miscommunication with **********. Minor point: They called them self a hotel, but rooms were not cleaned during the weekend. We did get clean towels after asking for it. The hotel does not have a 24 hours reception. For the good points: Good breakfast at their restaurant at the other side of the street. Very complete (!) room with a kitchen including magnetron, refrigerator, plates, pans etc. Clean, nice rooms with a good bed, a table and two chairs. Good shower. Good wifi. Free café, thee and coco. (The second time there was not much café.) They arranged a way to check-in after office time (close at 6PM) at 7PM coming back from our trip from Eqi Lodge. The location of the hotel is in the center of town, close to 3 supermarkets, several restaurants (mostly closed) and several tour operators. Even with the 300 DDK extra and taxi costs, still a less expense option compared with most other hotels in town. gps: 69.218345, -51.098666
