The location is lovely. The hotel is situated beside the river in a park, with lovely walks. It is a short walk to Ilkley Town, and Ilkley moor is a 10 minute drive. It is centrally located for touring the dales. The lady serving breakfast and on reception, was friendly and chatty Having previously had difficulty getting an evening meal whilst on holidays, we chose this hotel after checking its advertised menu as well as its location. On arrival, we were informed that 'the chef was sick' and given a much limited menu. I had steak and ale pie, which was tasteless and felt like it had been re heated. Ice cream was on the dessert menu, however it was 'mr whippy' only and they had no toppings as the machine wasnt working. The smells in our room and stairwell before each breakfast and evening meal was very unpleasant, and although we had breakfast each morning, which was ok, it put us off evening meal, and we ate out each evening . The room had nice views over the park. There was quite a lot of dust and we moved the small settee to watch the television and the wall behind it was caked in fdust and cobwebs. Although the room was serviced, it wasn't hoovered. We also noticed small holes in the sheets that had been sewn up. On one occasion, the milk curdled in the coffee and a request for more was met with surprise. At no time were we asked if everything was okay. A hotel in a beautiful location with fantastic potential that needs its standards raised.
