If you want to know what a hotel looked like in the 70s, stay at the Travelodge in Hope. Fortunately we were only staying for one night en route to Vancouver. The hotel lobby and hallway stank of smoke, which is ironic when every sign possible warns against smoking or you’ll get a hefty fine. There were a heap of other rules posted up on each door on the hotel. The pool was its only good feature and was enjoyed by the kids. It was so warm in there. Sadly the hot tub was even warmer, it was unusable as the water was too hot. The room was outdated with a tiny bathroom, and an even smaller kitchenette. There was one plate and no cutlery in the kitchenette! The pool closes at 8.30pm and doesn’t open until 10am the next day, so no early morning swim. Meanwhile, the “continental breakfast” doesn’t start until 9.30am, not ideal if you’re up and out early. We managed to pack up the car and then wait for breakfast to begin - I’m glad we did as there wasn’t a huge selection and it was looking bare as we left (family of four). The only other plus side was it’s right next door to the Mountain View Brewery, which is where we ate the night we stayed as the kitchenette was so shabby. Do check out the brewery! But give this hotel - their rude/grumpy front desk lady (the older of the two ladies) - a swerve. There must be better in Hope.
