My wife and I made a last minute journey to Hood River to celebrate a family birthday and not wanting to make a late night drive through the Gorge home, we decided to stay over for the evening. We were lucky to discover Thistledown on Oak Street, we were even luckier they had availability as this Boutique hotel is truly something special. Each room is unique and we were directed to Griffin’s Loft, One of the 3 rooms currently available in this one of a kind hotel. As we walked in we were amazed by its unique blend of beautiful antiques, bold colors and warm homie feel. But cleverly integrated are all the modern touches you expect with at a high end luxury hotel. Like wifi, fridge, coffee maker, wine glasses and treats, but when you ad in the picture frame big screen televisions that are seamlessly integrated into the decor, or the fireplace with leather sofa with blankets and power curtains?? This place is special. And the bed…. Adjustable comfort you just don’t find in any hotels, one of the most comfortable I have experienced. Though the building is built is 100 plus years old, Thistledown on oak is relatively new we were told that the current 3 rooms will be expanded in the near future and we can’t wait to see what those look like, and once this place is discovered they will need the extra availability. I can imagine seeing this place on the Conde’ Nast’s lists of must-visit hotels soon, As this place is over the top magnificent! And the bonus is its just minutes off I-84 in the heart of downtown Hood River. Check it out!!

My husband and I stay at Thistledown on Oak each time we are in beautiful Hood River OR. We absolutely love everything about Thistledown on Oak; from a most comfortable bed to luxurious bath towels, from the decor to scenery. The staff is welcoming, friendly and makes you feel appreciated; making your stay exceptional. Thistledown on Oak: a quintessential Boutique Hotel.

Thistledown on Oak is MAGNIFICENT!!! I knew Hood River was a great place and I recently got a chance to return with my wife and after some research I found Thistledown on Oak. It doesn't do it justice to describe it as a Hotel because it's more unique than that. The best way I can describe it is to imagine if you knew a celebrity and they gave you their luxury apartment to use while they were away. It has to be seen to be believed. We were fortunate enough to experience Griffin's Loft which is the smallest of the suites available and was amazing in itself but then we moved into the Penthouse for a few days.... OMG!!! I will add some photos because words aren't enough and no one is going to read a review this long never mind what it would actually take to describe it properly. I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to our amazing host Kimi, she is perfect....there when we needed anything but also ensured we had absolute peace and privacy throughout. A special thanks to the owners, Sarah & Brad (I hope I got that right) You gave us a life long memorable experience! We really did not want to leave and we will return!

Every need has been thought of in advance. The detail dedicated to recreating a 19th century yet “modern” feel exceeded my expectations. Griffin’s Loft was the perfect cozy spot for a solo stay! Only draw back, shower pressure could be improved but the building is from 1910, sooo with that in mind, enjoy everything else. Well worth it!

Each room feels like stepping into a 19th-century European retreat, meticulously decorated with treasures sourced from their travels around the globe. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The suite features a private deck with a hot tub offering breathtaking views of the Columbia River and surrounding mountains—a perfect spot to relax and take in the beauty of the area. The decor is stunning, and every detail, from the cozy Tempurpedic beds to the high-end finishes in the bathroom, is thoughtfully chosen to enhance the guest experience. The modern amenities make the stay even more comfortable: flat-screen TVs, Breville coffee makers, luxurious bathrooms with tile and marble, and those incredible views. It’s clear that no detail has been overlooked in crafting a space that feels both inviting and exclusive. Kimi, our host, was attentive and ensured our stay was perfect from start to finish. This place is perfect for those tired of the cookie-cutter, bland hotel experience and looking for something truly memorable and special. If you’re planning a trip to Hood River, do yourself a favor and book a stay at Thistledown on Oak—you won’t regret it. We can’t wait to return!

What a discovery! This boutique hotel is tucked up inside an historic Hood River building in the heart of downtown, within steps of all the good exploration, shops and eating. Once inside, there is more discovery. Owners have curated a fantastic experience. We stayed in Griffins Loft - ridiculously cool and fun. And all the appointments are top notch - free snacks, a great coffee bar with top of the line machine in our room, fluffy down pillows and bedding, robes and glorious tv watching from the loft bed. Every look around our room brought new discoveries. Love love love. Clearly the owners have enjoyed building and curating! Well done.
