Villas El Encanto Holbox

My brother and I booked 2 rooms at Villas El Encanto, and enjoyed our stay. I was in #6, directly below his room. I could hear the floor creaking when he walked around, but I sleep with a white noise machine and it was able to block out any sound disturbances. Something to consider if you are a light sleeper though. We had issues with our AC units, but since the weather was not that hot in January, we didn't actually need to use them. The windows and the fans were enough to keep cool at night (I actually even needed to use a blanket from the closet. They provide towels for the beach, and our rooms had refrigerators. The rooms do not safes, but the area really did seem safe. One day I accidentally left my key in my screen door lock, for hours while on a beach walk, and nothing happened. The shower did have hot water most of the time, altho occasionally it was only luke warm (maybe it depends on how many other folks are showering at the same time). Having the private screen porch with hammock was nice, since mosquitos are a thing here, altho the screens are not 100% bug proof. The beach club beds and area is a short walk, and nice to have. The beach bar can provide drink and food service right to the beach beds. I think the location is really great, in that you are a short walk to town, but also a bit off the beach and main road. The dune buggies and motorcycles driving on the road are loud, so it's nice to be set back a little bit. We walked everywhere and only needed a taxi three times in 4 days -- getting to and from the ferry, and getting home from Punta Cocos since it was a long walk to get there and the roads were a bit flooded. The reception desk and staff were really nice and helpful. Overall I would stay here again, we got a great deal and I think a good value for what we paid. If you are looking for something more on the luxury end, this is more on the rustic end, but still nice. And again, I think a great location as long as you don't mind a pleasant walk (not even very far, it was less than 10 mins to the town center, and just a minute away to some great restaurants and beach bars).

The place is very nice but its management seems to be out to lunch! To begin with, the studio/cabins are spacious and well kept but there were several things missing -- they don't even have not normal chairs)for guest to seat on. In an Island with only expensive beach restaurants to eat you are basically stuck there. The room we got didn't even a coffee maker so our options to feed our family were limited limited. Paradoxically, our cabin had a large fridge that remained mostly empty as we didn't have anything to keep refrigerated. I must acknowledge that here is one "kitchen" in the property that has not been upgraded to be used by guests (it is mostly for the local personnel living there). We did use the kitchen occasionally (to make tea) but the whole situation was uncomfortable for everyone. On a positive note: the lady who cleaned our cabin tried to remediate the issues mentioned above by letting us us some of the kitchen plates and cups. Suggestions: the owner/management should invest a little bit of money and make the large rooms into semi-studios with at least a coffee maker, a hot plate and some basic dinner ware.

Very disappointed with the room quality. We paid extra for a sea view beach villa and you needed binoculars to see the sea, it was far away with buildings blocking any view. The room was too dark and it needs venetian not full blinds to provide light. There's no storage. There's a fridge in the wardrobe and in the bathroom no storage areas at all, toiletries had to go on the floor. Expensive for a very basic room only.
