I had a pretty horrible experience at Palmera. When I booked, I was told check in would be around 3 pm. I showed up right before 3, and entered the lobby. The female concierge said “If you’re here for check in, it isn’t until 3:30.” I said “oh, the person I spoke with told me 3”. She said that she can’t put me in a dirty room. I said okay, and left to return. I found this rude, that I was not welcomed or greeted or spoken with, just sort of barked at that I was too early. Regardless, I returned around 3:45 pm, and waited to be checked in at the front desk. All 3 of the individuals at the front desk were rude. I was again, not welcomed, not greeted, not informed about any of the hotel amenities- just asked for my name and my card and was told to sign some things. Another man was asking the employee to help him get into his room that he had been locked out of, and the employee spoke to him over the guests waiting to tell him they’d be with him when they could but that they were clearly busy. I again, found this all rude and was disappointed by the lack of attention to service. I felt like I was at the DMV, not like I was checking in to my hotel. I didn’t need anything throughout my stay, and the facilities were nice and as advertised. 45 minutes before it was time to check out of my room, the hotel provided in room phone rang. It was the same concierge that was rude at check in, telling me that I was going to receive a free vacation for staying for the night. I understand her job is to get people in the doors for their tour at the vacation club, but her tactics were deceptive and aggressive. Upon checkout I hoped to receive some sort of redeeming interaction, but I did not. I approached the desk, was asked for my keys, and was given my receipt. No thank you, no smile, no hello, no goodbye. The concierge stopped me on the way out to give me my paperwork for my tour- when she got to the deposit section she looked at me and said “I’ll just waive this because you don’t look like you have anything on you.” That was my last straw- after being told by the hotel staff that I didn’t look like I had any money, after paying for my $300 room, I left. I myself work in hospitality and I was not only disappointed but actively offended at the way I was treated at Palmera Inn and Suites. I reached out to management, voiced my concerns, and waited to hear back about some sort of resolution, but after many attempts, I have been ignored. I will certainly not be staying again and I recommend finding different accommodations when visiting Hilton Head.
