Hersonissos Maris

We spent a great 10 days at the hotel. I loved the layout of the hotel, village like, with crazy paved pathways, all very clean, well cared for and no litter. Lots of old olive trees, bourganvillea etc around the paths. Most of the apartment blocks are two storey, ours being three storey. We had a very quiet room overlooking an old olive grove. Lots of the ground floor rooms had private pools which looked lovely and very clean..our room was very comfortable with quiet air con, cleaned daily. The restaurant , in my view, was excellent. All the food was very fresh and prepared on site. Lots of choice of genuine Greek dishes, all of which were delicious . The waiters, just serving drinks and clearing tables as it was all buffet service, were great, very friendly, and the maitre ‘d extremely efficient. The hotels own bar across the road was great serving very reasonably priced drinks and food. The view across the bay was beautiful. The only downside was the distance into town,, a good 15-20 minutes, which in 35degree heat was challenging. However taxis were available. The location was therefore relatively quiet but made for a relaxing holiday. We had a problem with Jet2 holidays as they don’t deliver to or collect from the hotel but drop you off some 400 yards away.. doesn’t sound far, but with 22kg cases and 10kg hand luggage in approaching 40 degree heat, was just not acceptable. Same with pick up, we had to walk to the location and wait half an hour with no shade.! The actual holiday and hotel was brilliant but I would suggest a taxi transfer or go with another company who do take you to the door. We saw several minibuses and even a full size coach arriving whilst we were there.

Our experience at this hotel was mixed. We had a lovely room with private pool and sitting area. The pool was bigger than we thought and plenty of room for two sun loungers and a table and chairs. Room was spacious, sitting area downstairs, bedroom upstairs. Two bathrooms, one upstairs the other downstairs. So no problem with the room at all. Whe we arrived with 40 other people, there was one member of staff doing all the check ins. We had to wait a long time to be served and get to our room, which after a tiring journey was not good. Later we found there were two receptionists who were on duty at different times. One was lovely, very helpful and polite, the other quite rude and dismissive. Needless to say if we had a query, we waited for the nice one!! Food was buffet style and was average, nothing special. Canteen style food but plenty of choice. Sweets were poor, but there was ice cream as an alternative. Although our meals were inclusive, we ate out quite a bit at a local taverna which had excellent food and was very good value. However the waiters at the hotel who just served drinks and cleared away the plates were very nice and friendly. There was a bar at the hotel but this did not open until 6pm, if you wanted a coffee or drink during the day you had to cross the road to an outside bar. It wqs quite a walk to the nearest town, a long way in the heat! And taxis were not cheap. 2 pools at the hotel, very clean and inviting pools and surrounding area. Usual problem of towels on the sun beds early in the morning to reserve. We did not use the pool at all. But no need as we had our own small pool. Beach small, so not alot of room at busy times. We used the Spa while there, but were not impressed at all. I had a back massage and facial which was really not the best. It started off badly as I was given no privacy to remove my clothing and get on the couch, the young therapist stayed in the room waiting for me to undress. I found that very embarrassing as I am used to the therapist leaving while I get ready and cover myself on the couch. I should perhaps have asked her to leave but I was a bit taken aback at the time. The back massage was ok, not the best I have had as was the facial. Maybe I was still feeling embarrassed and could not relax. I gather my husband was unhappy with his back and scalp massage as he had a back massage and the therapist said that was the end of the treatment. No scalp massage, when he mentioned this the therapist said she did not realise and gave him a token 5 min massage. The treatments were expensive and therefore we expected better. We did complain very nicely to the Manager who promised us a free 30 min massage before we went home. Unfortunately she only had a male therapist available so I declined and offered my 30 mins to my husband. The Manager said she would contact us on the Monday but never did and so my husband never got his treatment as we went home on the Tuesday, Very disappointing! Over

We went to have a massage at the spa, and it was great. The staff was very friendly and the facilities were clean and nice. Aris helped me with my shoulder pain and gave me good tips to deal with it. Next time in crete, I will definitely enjoy another massage there.

Overall a very nice and pleasant stay with great location. The staff is very friendly and the hotel with all the facilities is great. The spa offer is also nice, Rafaela and Ari are very friendly and give you a relaxing treatment. The food and drinks are also to be recommended.

Very great service from Katerina! Rafela was very welcoming as well! :) The spa was very clean and had a variety of amenities. All products were wonderful and I was able to sample them as well. I also got to use the sauna and hamman which was a great experience for me!
