I’ve been spoilt by the anonymity of AirBNB - and come to think of it most contemporary accommodation providers. No paper work, no show you round the property, no this is a blanket…. Just a key and the wifi code. So the in-person, fussy check-in was over the top, stifling and set off my experience badly. Not boutique!! The location surrounded by a working orchard is quite pretty - especially with the blossoms out. The gardens round the main house are attractive. The 3units have little privacy, especially the one bedroom unit. They are plonked in the paddock, with little thought to views, privacy or solar orientation. The decks, and each and every window, over look each other. The studio -despite being straight onto the drive- is the most private. Not boutique. Once inside, Lazy Boys dominate the living area, focused at the huge screen TV. Theres ample Kiwi kitsch chintz- including coasters and placemats on each surface?!? A mix of dated and new fittings and decor- its classic kiwi accommodation from 10years ago - with new curtains. Not boutique. There’s A LOT of rules! If anyone actually gets past the page with the wifi code on!! No recycling is available. All bathroom products are single use and plastic wrapped. Nice plush carpet. Nice Denby crockery and Portmerrion bits. Bed was comfy. But no headboard. Only unit not to have a bbq. The bathroom was clean and … practical though the towels a little small and past best. Industry tea & coffee only provisions, in an otherwise well equipped kitchen. Wifi doesn’t extend to the bedroom. Check out is the old 10am kick out. Not boutique! Would recommend to a less discerning traveller. Wont stay again. If you want boutique accommodation in this area - Haumoana Herb Cottage.
