Yala Beddegama Eco

This place was a highlight of ours. We were peacefully happy with nothing to do but observe and read. I loved it. Lakshma was a kind, thoughtful host and Sachin was an excellent chef - the flavours of each dish were different but equally as tasty as each other. I’d love to stay here again.

I spend one night there and they really ran out of luck, with a couple of power cuts (happened throughout my stay on the island..) and the cook hit by a car on his way to work! Still, it was a magical experience, it makes you realize and feel the scope of human impact on the environment... I was awaken by monks singing.... Despite the problems, the staff was very dependable, very helpful and the owner himself got involved to offset the impact of the issues. A night there between two great safaris in UdaWalawe and Yala.... Just perfect! Thank you.

We stayed in a tree house and had the most amazing experience of waking of up with nature. A super cool experience if you like nature and or are travelling with children. The tree houses are spacious and have nets to keep the monkeys out, mosquito nets over the beds and a safe to keep valuables locked away, but the whole are feels safe and well looked after. When you enter the gates you feel a little like you re entering Jurassic Park, it's brilliant. Lovely reception and restaurant area too! Definitely visit the Kataragama Temple complex whilst there, especially if you are lucky enough to be there for a full moon puja, one of our most favourite Sri Lankan experiences. LOVELY staff and owner, wish them all the best with this business! As of the political situation of Sri Lanka at the moment, we highly recommend that you ignore this and travel anyway! We travelled around for two weeks mid protests and petrol crisis and our trip was not in any way disrupted nor did we feel unsafe at any point in time. The protests are mainly near government buildings and are visited by families with kids, monks and students alike and does not target tourists who contribute so greatly to the Sri Lankan economy. Now more than ever, the Sri Lankan people needs us to visit so they can recover after the pandemic. Go and enjoy one of the most beautiful islands in the world which has so much to offer in terms of nature, culture, history, religious sites, smiley people and great food!

Retour aux sources… se la jouer Robinson au milieu de la jungle… nous avons tous plus ou moins ce genre de Désir… et on peut trouver dans ce pays l’occasion de vivre ça ! Ici on profite de vous en vous faisant payer 60 US dollars pour une chambre qui n’en vaut même pas la moitié ! Bien sûr le sourire de l’accueil est gentil…. Le cadre naturel est charmant certes mais construit dans la boue qu’il vous faut traverser sur des pierres avec une arrivée de nuit… pas facile ! Nous avions choisi un « cottage », et non pas une cabane dans les arbres. Chambre avec literie correcte et Clim qui fonctionne mais pas de bouilloire pour faire un thé (comme dans toutes chambres à ce niveau de prix.)… même pas une bouteille d’eau offerte, comme dans tous les hébergements où l’eau n’est pas potable, surtout quand vous avez payé 60 $ ! Bien évidemment pas connection internet et encore moins de wifi ! Maintenant, parlons des sanitaires : dans un endroit glauque à l’extérieur de la chambre avec des marches à descendre (imaginez quand on doit se relever pendant la nuit…), lavabo minable, douche complètement déglinguée (voir photos) toilettes OK. Pas de produits de toilette gel douche ou shampoing… juste un minuscule savon, pas d’eau chaude… Parlons aussi du petit déjeuner : pain de mie, mini omelette, deux mini saucisses de type industriel, genre Knack, confiture, beurre. Le thé vert… Il n’y en a pas il n’y a que du thé ordinaire en sachet (dans le pays du thé c’est un peu fort) Pas même de lait, nous avons demandé du lait, il n’y en avait pas… pas de fruits dans un pays où les fruits sont en surabondance sur tous les trottoirs et sur tous les marchés (et montrés en évidence sur les photos du site). Nous n’avons pas vu de manager, ni à notre arrivée le soir, ni à notre départ ou au petit déjeuner le lendemain matin : nous n’avons donc pas pu lui faire part de notre mécontentement. Nous avons expliqué tout cela au gentil jeune homme qui nous a accueillis et servis Mais il ne comprenait pas bien ce que nous lui disions … tres petit niveau d’anglais ! Ce genre d’endroit à 20 $ la nuit passe encore mais 60 $ c’est de l’arnaque tout simplement et un manque choquant de respect des clients ! Passez Votre Chemin ! Ps : le seul endroit en un mois de Sri Lanka où ne nous a pas proposé un verre de bienvenue à notre arrivée !
