Great location, Quiet room with comfortable beds and nice size bathroom. lovely spot. Nice, simple breakfast which was perfect. Thomas was a great host. Highly recommend Hallstatt transitions from a busy, tourist town to a very quiet, quant town at night.

Had a great 1 night stay 19/12/24 (so wish it had been longer). We arrived quite early in the day and knew the room wouldn't be ready, we were met by Eva, who couldn't have been more friendly, we left our bags and went exploring. When we returned we were shown up to Room 4, overlooking the market square with our own balcony. The room was brilliant, so comfey with a great bathroom and room amenities. Later in the evening we were enjoying drinks at the front which is a covered area with outside heaters, with other residents and locals. Tom the owner made a point of introducing himself, which was a really nice touch. After a great nights sleep, we went downstairs for breakfast, with a great choice of pastries, cold meats, cheeses, breads, yogurts etc as well as great coffee, all put together by the wonderful Eva again. A great stay and will certainly be returning.

A lovely bar in the central square. Friendly staff, excellent value for money. A great spot for soaking in the atmosphere. The bar does seem to open and close by demand, and has a mix of tourists and locals. Would recommend for a spot of people watching!

You can not stay more central inn Hallstatt then this, right on «Markt». Small hotel with only 4 rooms and a nice bar on the ground floor. We got a quiet room away from Markt and away from the sun, keeping the room cool (no AC) Friendly staff and great breakfast, including eggs made to order and a piece of «Apfelstrudel» to finish it with :-)

Definitely in the middle of the square. After the tourists leave for the night, enjoy this cozy central hotel. It is comfortable with modern conveniences. the breakfast was delicious too. We parked outside in the designated parking and took the shuttle to I da MIT. We went to the salt mines and dined at a nice local restaurant right on the water. Hallstatt is definitely beautiful. It is worth a visit if you come and stay so you miss the crowds.

This is a lovely little hotel right smack in the middle of Hallstatt. "I da Mitt" means "in the middle." It is owned and run by Tom, who grew up in this building, it was his family's house. He lovingly converted it into a four bedroom hotel and bar. It is tasteful and quite a wonderful experience to stay there. I had Room #4 which is the nicest, spacious and modern with a lovely balcony overlooking the Marktplatz. Great bathroom with rain shower, small fridge. No A/C and no elevator though. Temps were pleasant and I could sleep comfortably with the windows open. The Marktplatz is lively so ask for one of the back rooms if you are sensitive to noise. The bars close by 11pm so it quiets down at night. There is a free shuttle from Parking lot #1 (EU 15 per night) that will take you to your hotel, cars are not allowed in the town because the streets are so narrow and crowded with tourists. There is a call phone for the shuttle service near the toilets in the car park. Breakfast is included and has everything in a very nice buffet. The homemade breads are fantastic. Tom is an outstanding host!

... and that's where you'll find this charming little inn, right in the middle of town. We parked in the public parking lot and had the shuttle drop us in front of the hotel. Thomas quickly came out and took our bags up to our room. What a gem! This was our favorite stay in Austria and would recommend it to anyone!! Gorgeous room ... incredible bath ... fantastic breakfast! We were hooked!!!

We stayed at I da Mit for 3 nights in mid-August, 2023. We read many TA reviews of places to stay in Hallstatt (Austria) and noticed quite a few comments about how summer crowds could overload hotels to the degree that they could not adequately handle all the guests, resulting in poor service and delays. This seemed especially true for the larger hotels, who were also sending guests to less-desirable annex buildings. So we started to look at smaller places to stay and I remembered Rick Steves had recommended I da Mitt on one of his travel shows. It had many of the qualities he looked for: convenient location, not too big, family-run, comfortable but not fancy, personalized service. I da Mitt means “In The Middle” and it certainly is. Located right on Marktplatz, this extremely picturesque square draws a lot of visitors eager to photograph the many pretty facades lining it. I da Mitt only has 4 rooms. Because of its size it has been referred to as an "Inn" or "B&B" but calls itself a small hotel, which seems more accurate since rooms are very well-appointed with modern en-suite bathrooms. Photos on their website let you see what each room offers and you reserve the one you want. Thus, you know exactly what you’ll be getting when you arrive. Room #4 would seem to be the best, with a small balcony overlooking the square. As this was already reserved, we went for Room #2, right below it. The remaining 2 rooms do not face the square, but look very attractive in photos and would probably be quieter. On the ground floor is the cafe-bar, where a fine breakfast buffet is served, including local pastries and home-made yogurt. Guests enter and exit through the cafe and up a small set of stairs (no elevator) to their rooms. After hours when the front door is locked, there is a side door to the stairs. The bar is popular at night and has a small outside seating area. This means some late-night noise can reach the front rooms, and also cigarette smoke (as smoking outdoors is legal). During the day this was no problem for us, but at night the scent of cigarette was definitely in the air. The room windows were hefty enough to shut out both the smoke and noise and, even though we were there in August, it wasn't so warm that we needed the windows open at night. Otherwise, this could be a problem. Thomas Pilz is the owner of I da Mitt and he is extremely efficient, yet personable and generous. Ironically, he had never heard of Rick Steves and got a thrill when we showed him on our iPad the program where I da Mitt is mentioned. He said the program was quite old and all the rooms had been updated since then. We guess that’s a good thing, because we found our room to be wonderful. Room #2 stretched across the entire width of the narrow building with 3 windows overlooking the square. The decor uses a lot of wood and muted colors, making it restful yet contemporary-looking. The room had everything we could want. The bed was comfortable and there was a sittin

Honestly I agree with all the great reviews on here. This place truly is a gem amidst the somewhat messiness of Hallstatt. Room was beautiful and comfortable - had personality, was quite clean, and well furnished. Service was great and friendly - Thomas seems to be one of those people who just enjoys hospitality. Honestly for this small of a hotel (four rooms) I’ve never seen such an elaborate breakfast - anything you could want… Location is exactly on the center square. My one caution…and this was only a real series issue 1 of 2 nights for us…is that Room #2 in particular is directly above the entrance area bar of the hotel and its outdoor seating. Our first night was a Friday and they seemed to have a particularly boisterous crowd that night, but it was downright loud in our room (we had windows open as of course quite warm in summer) until close to midnight…just a heads up to consider (and presumably not an issue with back facing rooms, not sure about front facing floor above). Overall really a gem - but just be aware if you need to sleep early.
