Checking in could not be simpler but to do it you need to find a member of staff in the bar. The hotel is above a busy bar but noise from this is not too bad. It is in the bar that a decent breakfast is served although the coffee is really strong. I stayed in a single room which although small was workable. First impression generally was favourable as it was clean and only later did I notice the bird dropping on the inside of the window. Bed gave a good nights sleep so no problems there. You need to be careful with the shower as the hot water gets very hot very quickly so could get scalded if not careful. The only safe way I found to use the shower was to turn the cold tap on first and then slowly introduce hot water. I was there for a week and its location is ideal for exploring Haarlem and for taking day trips. It is an easy walk to the station and you pass two big supermarkets on the way for collecting supplies. Seems popular with locals given the number of Dutch people staying there. Cannot fault the staff as they are friendly and when your room gets serviced - which occasionally gets missed you always get fresh towels.

We stayed 3 nights and this was a great place to explore both Haarlem, the Church is fabulous, and Amsterdam. Room was just what we needed, clean and comfortable. Breakfast Buffet was amazing and owners and staff went out of their way to take care of us.

I stayed here with a friend for 3 nights. We had 2 single rooms on the second floor, 22 and 24. We had a really good experience. The staff were warm and friendly and seemed to be a good team ( thanks particularly to Anna). The hotel was warm and the rooms were spotless and comfortable. Each room was plainly furnished and had tea making facilities, toiletries, hairdryer and even a box of tissues. This was more than expected for the price. The bathrooms are compact but have all you would expect. If you are a larger person, you may struggle. Some reviews had mentioned noise at this hotel. We stayed midweek and had rooms facing the back of the hotel. We had no trouble at all with noise despite the whole GroteMarkt hosting a fun fair during our stay! In fact, we were astonished to see so many fellow guests at breakfast as the hotel was so quiet at night! Others have mentioned the excellent breakfast but I will add that if you are gluten free and ask, the staff will bake gluten free rolls for you at breakfast and they were delicious. We also ate dinner at the Vester restaurant twice and it was sooo good! Overall we would certainly return here. Haarlem is delightful and we enjoyed the central position of the hotel.

Pros and cons to this place. On the upside, it's really well located in central Haarlem. Strongly recommend staying in Haarlem and getting the train in and out of Amsterdam (10 minutes). It's quieter, prettier and less touristy. The town is worth a day walking the canals and visiting the great shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel is good value. The breakfast is great - great coffee, wide range of foods, great quality, friendly helpful person running it. Good powerful hot showers. Comfortable beds and linen although single beds are narrow. Nice drinks and food in convenient ground floor bar. Downsides are it of course has a noisy location on the main square, and could do with some renovation/deep cleaning. Mouldy grout, dirty carpet, very worn fittings and decor. Random incomplete restocking (we ran out of toilet paper which didn't seem to be refilled over a stay of several days). Steep narrow stairs, staff saying at times the lift was not in use when it appeared to be (this seemed to happen when the bar was closed). No staffed reception, all done through the ground floor bar. Small ensuites with difficult wooden swing doors.

Excellent. Efficient and friendly staff. Great location right on the main square. Good breakfast with nice ambience. A nice bar downstairs with a relaxed vibe in the evening and great to have a last drink before bed. Super value-for-money. We would definitely like to visit here again.

This was the cheapest private room I could find in the area, and it was ideal for sightseeing around Haarlem because of its central location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the wifi was good. The room needed a deep clean though, and everything seemed old and outdated. The TV was too small and I couldn't get it to work. However for the price (considering the cost of everything in Holland) I can't complain too much.

Only stayed in Haarlem for one night then moved onto Amsterdam for another 3 nights. Wish we had stayed in Haarlem. The city itself is wonderful, great architecture and buildings. The hotel is situated right in the centre and perfect for exploring the city. The hotel staff were friendly and accomodating. We were able to leave our bags and pick them up later when we checked out. The hotel was clean comfortable and very reasonably priced. The shower in the room was great. The breakfast (included in the price) was fantastic. A lovely selection of meat cheese eggs bread juice cereal. Went for my 50th birthdayand shall be going again and staying in Haarlem for longer. All in all a great trip

We hebben wakker gelegen tot 4:00 uur in de morgen door vreselijk harde rotmuziek dat overal doorheen dreunde hele slechte nacht gehad terwijl we kwamen om te ontstressen in Haarlem. Ik weet dat we midden in de stad zitten maar wij sliepen pal onder de boxen dus voor je rust hoef je hier niet heen te gaan.

Erg sober en gedateerd,badkamer is meer n kast en een vies douchegordijn zou de wc droog moeten houden wat niet is, klapdeurtjes sluiten niet dus geen prive op het toilet of onder de douche en het ergste was wel dat op vrijdag en zaterdag avond en nacht mega veel geluidsoverlast is van een naastgelegen bar. Tot 2:30 niet kunnen slapen van de herrie en dreunende bassen. We zijn een dag eerder vertrokken dan we geboekt hadden...nog nooit zo iets vreselijk meegemaakt. Dit was eens maar nooit meer!
