Bohostel

I wasn't originally going to post about my experiences here but after this one volunteer whose name is Anna and this other issue came up with a roommate who had body odor I decided to post everything that has not been up to par since I arrived here 3 weeks ago. I don't like to be picky and expect perfection but after all of this I feel like I need to say something. So let's start with the good stuff. GOOD: 1. The beds here are the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in any hostel worldwide. 2. This hostel is only a few years old so it still feels like a new building in many ways. 3. I love that there is a café on the first floor and I am particularly fond of the job Alejandro and his assistant do. They are EXTREMELY attentive and quick about the type of work that they do. 4. I love that the kitchen is an open/patio type concept on the upper most floor. 5. I love that this hostel is like 5 minutes from one of my favorite clubs and walking distance from the main strip here where much of the action happens. Very walkable depending what sort of activities you like to do. BAD: 1. One of things that motivated me to get on here and leave a review is that Anna, one of the housekeeping volunteers, decided to get an attitude with me yesterday. This bitterness exuding from her was in regard to me leaving empty containers to be recycled in my room next to the trash can. As I was standing in the bathroom shaving she began to talk to me about how wrong my actions were. She complained that me leaving the containers on the floor were making her job super difficult. I calmly asked what the proper procedure was since this was really nothing all that major and would require only a minor adjustment. She stated that I should put recyclables in the trash because housekeeping separates them or place them on the top most floor in the kitchen. I told her in the United States we do not throw recyclables in the trash. I figured housekeeping would just grab an extra bag and toss the recycles in said bag and handle that for me but apparently this was WAYYYY too much to expect here at BoHostel. She supremely insulted me by adding a snippy comment along the lines of "no one should have to tell you what to do." As a former housekeeper at Veteran's Affairs medical center I know that a housekeeper role in terms of guest engagement is to be a silent force in the background. The volunteers at BoHostel are so unmanaged that they have apparently gotten complacent and comfortable enough with the guests to insult them directly and not fear any consequences. This is management's fault. After her brash insult I proceeded to my room to gather the containers she so low vibrationally complained about and they weren't even there any more. So she was just directing negative energy at me for the sake of doing it after taking her job way too personally. 2. What an awesome pair of surprises: first Guadalajara, which is a really underrated city, and second Bohostel, which is a fantastic hostel. The rooftop and lounge are awesome, the staff are top notch and super friendly. The location is close to perfect in a city of that size, and the price was just right. I would have appreciated the dorms being a little bigger. Packing was hard in cramped quarters. And the upper bunks are dangerous without guard rails, a fact made worse by how high they are. If someone installs something to prevent you from rolling out in your sleep, I'll say they're fine. It's not terribly social either, but that could be very easily solved with bar crawls, walking tours and the other usual routines. If they made more of that rooftop after sundown, they'd be one of the best hostels in Mexico.
