Chalet du Lys Hotel & SPA

We have just left the hotel after staying via Crystal Ski for Feb Half Term week as a group of two families with four kids aged 9-11. First of all location: Chalet Du Lys is probably the best located hotel Stafal, which if you want the best ski access to the wonderful Monterosa ski area, is the best town to stay in. In the mornings there is a short walk to the gondola or cable car for accessing either side of the valley and at the end of the day, intermediates and up can ski almost to the ski room door. The hotel itself is well kept and modern enough. The spa facilities and outdoor pool are very welcome additions which we used every day. The children are only allowed in the outdoor pool and not the spa, but they did enjoy it very much. It was generally a good temperature and they probably spent half an hour a day in it! Our family of four had a suite room, which meant a bedroom with twin beds and a king size sofa bed in the lounge area. There was also a huge balcony. With all the beds made up the room perhaps could have been more spacious but it wasn’t a big issue as we were rarely in there. Some extra storage besides the one large wardrobe for all the ski clothing in the room would have been welcome but again not a big concern. The hotel was very quiet at night with no noise from other rooms or local bars etc. Finally, the best this about the hotel for us was the breakfast and dinner service. The food was fantastic with a huge range of options all wonderfully cooked and our waiter for the week, Marco, was simply amazing. The best we have experienced over many holidays. A note on Gressoney for skiing - don’t be put off by all the reds on the piste map, if you can confidently snow plough turn you will be able to get around a large part of the mountain. The runs at bettaforca are particularly suitable to start on. By the end of the week our kids were getting down the black runs and due to no lift queues (despite it being half term) we were clocking up some serious mileage on the skis, around 50-60km a day (not including lifts) We look forward to returning to Chalet Du Lys in the future!

What an amazing week we have just had as a group of 8 (2 families with 4 children between us aged 9-11). The hotel was amazing. Rooms were ready when we arrived at 2pm. We had interconnecting rooms which worked great for our family of 4. The outdoor pool was ridiculously hot (42C) on the first day but got gradually cooler as the week went on. The spa was an absolute delight after a day on the slopes. Food was amazing at breakfast and evening meal. So much choice and Marco who looked after us at meal times was the star of the show. He was so knowledgable about the food and wine and went out of his way to support the children with alternatives if they didn’t like what was on the menu. The coffee at breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We loved the pianist who played beautifully for hours non stop at dinner time. The hotel can be skid back to at the end of a day of skiing by the red run, though it is fairly steep and not for beginners. The only gripe I had was that there was no obvious easy route down from the boot room to the path that lead to the 5 minute walk to the main gondola/ cable car. We were dicing with slippy roads or trudging up steps and through snow to get to the main path. Overall, a wonderful week here. We would definitely return!

Super hotel, very friendly, cozy rooms and perfectly situated for getting up into the mountains for tours (and relaxing in the spa after a long day hiking/climbing). A favourite! Fantastic food: wide range of traditional dishes and a buffet, can't wait to go back.

I had a really good feeling about this hotel and its management before we arrived and it certainly didn't disappoint! The husband (Giorgio) and wife (Janine) owners are super friendly and set the tone for the whole team. Every member of staff made our family group of 8 feel welcome and tried so hard across the board. The 'Gordon's Pub' under the same roof/ownership is a bit special! You can watch sport on the big screen, have your half board meal there instead of the formal Dinning Room should you wish, and even join in with the locals on 'Karaoke Night' (hilarious!). We also used the excellent spa facilities every night. Simply a brilliant relaxed place to stay. Oh yes, and it happens to be located in the best location within the Monterosa Ski Area (top of the middle valley). Highly highly recommend! :)

It was our first time to Gressoney Staffal and we loved it and are sure to return, the food and spa offerings at this hotel are excellent and the owner is extremely helpful. He even gave us a lift down to the next resort so I could visit the pharmacy after already ringing ahead to double check that I could get the antibiotics I needed over the counter. That was above and beyond what I would expect as customer service and I am extremely grateful.

This is a super, very well run hotel by kind and helpful staff. The location for Monterosa skiing is second to none, with access to all ski areas within minutes, via the cable car or gondola. The spa is wonderful, the small outdoor pool great fun, and the bar is a great addition when the mood takes you. The food and wine choices meet all our group needs in a well laid out restaurant, and there are plenty of lounge areas for all. The ski storage room is spacious and the heated rack means warm boots in the morning. The classic rooms, triple, suite, and chalets have pleased everyone and there is no shortage of fluffy pillows, toiletries, towels and robes. Well done Chalet du Lys!
