The Saracens Head Inn

We have been to the Saracens head the last couple of Christmas’s and had a really great experience. Sadly not the case yesterday. The food was very poor..and expensive. Sea bass over cooked. Burgers so salty and tough they were inedible… Duck bon bons burnt and jack potato skins - a soggy half a baked potatoes with chewy ham….. The eggnog creme brûlée can only be described and revolting. So sad as it’s rare we can all get together and go out as a family and we deserved a better dinner out… I did that terribly British thing - and didn’t mention it at the time (didn’t want to upset Granny!) But we should never have paid £300 odd quid for 5 adults and three kids. However - the serving staff were Charming and working hard and the venue was clean and welcoming. Go for a pint - but not an eating out venue at the mo.

The staff at the hotel were very efficient in advising us in good time that they were cut off by road by local flooding. We wouldn't have got there had we set off. We were very grateful for the timely information and all the more determined to get there at some stage in the future.

We have just returned from a one nights stay at the gorgeous Saracens Head Inn. We have visited previously for food and drinks, but we have never stayed overnight and we are so glad we did! We had the most amazing time and didn’t let Storm Bert stop us from venturing out on a 2 hour walk! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by Max, who showed us to our room……room 8 which was just stunning…..beautiful view of the river and immaculately clean. Our evening meal and breakfast were superb. Hats off to the chef…the quality is 5 star. The Saracens really is gem of place and we can’t wait to visit again. Luckily we only live in Cardiff and are planning are next visit in Spring. Thank you so much to all the amazing friendly team…..and to Pete for helping me sort a gift voucher out for my daughter to come and stay ( she is so looking forward to it! ) You have a really special place and I would highly recommend to any body. Popped into this lovely pub after walking around Symonds Yat with our dogs. Had a fabulous roast beef lunch sat outside. Our lunch was delicious. Staff were very friendly and even though the pub was busy our food came out in good time. Would highly recommend

We have stayed at the Saracens Head four times now, and each time we’ve been so impressed by this lovely pub on the banks of the River Wye at Symonds Yat. The pub itself is very attractive, very welcoming with a good range of drinks including real ales, nice wines and great food, there are plenty of staff to ensure that you never wait too long to be served even in busy times as this is an understandably very popular watering hole for visitors and residents alike. The bar is cosy, especially when the table candles are lit at dusk, the restaurant is also really lovely, food in both bar and restaurant is really good, as is the excellent service in both. Staff here are young, friendly and efficient, and there’s always someone to help you with anything you need. It was particularly nice to see someone early in the morning sweeping the terraces in preparation for the busy day ahead, every table was soon full of people enjoying coffees, lunchtime drinks, bar meals etc overlooking the river. Bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and modern, there are plenty of fluffy white towels and the usual toileteries, the big beds are really comfy, the rooms have been well planned to offer all you need for an enjoyable stay, there are plenty of plugs in sensible places (ie by the dressing table mirror and bedside tables) for your hairdrier, straighteners, phone chargers etc with decent lighting, a wall mounted tv and the usual tea, coffee, biscuits and water tray. Our room (3) was at the front, upstairs with french doors out to a Juliet balcony, a couple of chairs and a little table had been placed in front of the window and were ideal for enjoying sitting watching the activites below, including canoe-ing on the river, the river cruise boat, ducks, swans and dogs and the occasional stand-up paddle boarders all enjoying the water. There’s an ancient hand-pulled ferry across to the opposite bank, free to hotel guests, which is a novel way to get to the other side, and a great circular walk through the woods, over a big (wobbly!) river bridge and back down the other side, around 5km of fairly flat pathways, mostly within sight of the beautiful river. This has to be one of our favourite places to stay, anywhere, and we highly recommend The Saracens Head to anyone.

We stayed here for one night and can't wait to return! We had a lovely room with river view - spacious, clean, well appointed and modern. Lots of windows - very welcome in the heat. There is free parking, lovely walks and the pub itself is great - it was so nice just sitting by the river. The staff are lovely too. Food is delicious and plentiful - we loved our dinner and our breakfast. I think this might just be one of my new favourite places!
