The Pig at Combe - Devon

We came here for our anniversary and whilst the setting is lovely, the service is luke warm and quite robotic. Plus, the food is just ok and the prices are high for what it is! Our whole brill (which was £85) was slapped in front of us, with no offer of helping us to carve it or service it. We did ask one of the waitresses to send back to chef to slice or serve at the table. It was sent back to chef and whilst it was carved for us when it came back there was no offer of serving it onto our plates, in comparison with the sort of service you'd get in Europe where they'd carve and serve at your table - adding to the theatre. That said, the brill was beautiful which was the saving grace. Unlikely to come here again soon (being a local to Devon, that's a shame). Most staff need a good dose of personality.

After experiencing meals at Pig establishments we decided to break our journey for one night here on our way back from Cornwall. We stayed in the converted stable yard. Enormous room with a super comfy bed, ensuite was an amazing rainfall shower and a separate stand alone bath. The food in the evening was delicious from a small but perfectly formed menu in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was extensive with cooked options available. The staff were great, lots of smiles and nothing was too much trouble. This Pig ticked all the boxes for us, stunning location, relaxed atmosphere and all round just a great place to stay. We would definitely recommend for a one night stay.

We had a special family ceremony in the Folly and it was wonderful! We were blown away by the surroundings, the set up in the Folly, the great food and drink and the lovely staff who made it special. We would love to return and spend more time here. Thank you!

The setting is truly stunning. I would return simply for that. Sadly the food did not live up to expectation. I can’t put my finger on what was wrong. Not special enough? Whilst the quirk of unmatched plates etc I can live with, several had chips or cracks. That was disappointing. Prices I felt were fair.

We had an excellent and truly memorable stay recently, in a Comfy luxe room for 3 nights. Our room (#2) was spacious, with a comfortable superking bed, small sitting area and overlooked the side of the hotel. The bathroom had a very large shower plus a roll top bath; the toilet was separate. It was very quiet with a beautiful view. We ate in the restaurant on 2 of the 3 evenings and found the food and service excellent. Breakfast was equally good with a very extensive buffet plus a wide choice of cooked items. The reception staff were outstanding ; even going as far as providing piggy shortbread when I said I was disappointed with the afternoon tea cakes selection. Only one note of caution- as others have mentioned, the country lanes to the estate are narrow and quite potholed. But that’s hardly the hotels fault! Our 4th Pig hotel and hopefully we’ll be back soon.
