We stayed in the Thomas Gainsborough suite & it was lovely. Had a lovely meal & the breakfast was very good too. Great place to escape to in a beautiful rural area just outside Braintree. Diana the owner as well as Amy one of the staff members were very hospitable & couldn’t do enough for you. Would recommend to friends & family.

Stayed in our campervan in field opposite. Greeted by Diane who was very polite and friendly. Evening meal was absolutely delicious, one of the best meals out for a long time. Starters of camembert and prawns amazing. Mains of steak and burger cooked perfectly and again, very tasty. Highly recommend going here as a stopover or if you need a room. Diane and staff lovely people. Thankyou.

A very well appointed room with lovely views across the countryside and an extremely comfortable bed. Diana's attention to detail is second to none and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay. We hope to have the opportunity to return in the near future.

A warm and friendly welcome from the staff and the location is very peaceful and picturesque. Diana and her team really look after you. The views from the rooms are lovely too, overlooking local farms, fields and forests. A highly recommended location and we will be returning for sure

We were in the Mark Catesby room. The bed was comfortable, the towels were of good quality and the food was good. However we were very disappointed with the accommodation. The room was dark and the only natural light came from the French doors which opened out to the car park at the back of the building. The carpet was ruched and I’ll fitting in parts, the bathroom was in need of updating and there were no surfaces to put toiletries. Little attention was given to the little things that make your stay comfortable. The accommodation was not of the standard we expected for the price. We were never asked whether we enjoyed our stay. Says it all.

Gorgeous accomodation.We were in the Gainsborough room. Very spacious . Even had own fridge and we were given milk on arrival as well as bottled water. Really large shower room. All very clean. Bed huge and very comfortable!! Small area to sit out the back. Stones throw from pub for breakfast and dinner. Great food and lovely host Diana. All her team work hard. We will return.

We booked via telephone following finding hotel online. Very friendly and easy booking. Stayed 3 nights while visiting friends and local area. Hotel very nice, nice big room, clean and well equipped (some more drawers would have been useful), food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Staff very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our stay very much and will be back at some point.

Lovely spot for a relaxing night's stay in the Essex countryside. The room in a separate building behind the pub was great - clean, warm and very comfortable with a good shower. The evening meal and breakfast in the pub was delicious and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

A wonderful weekend staying in the coach house at the pheasant, inclusive of breakfast which was absolutely delicious. Beautiful room with a stunning view. The staff were all accommodating and willing to cater to any request, nothing seemed too much or a burden. The owner Diana is a wonderful warm and welcoming lady. We also loved the fact the location is out of the way. A perfect olde English pub with fantastic high quality produce to create a tasty meal. 5* experience for us.
