Just returned from a one night stay in The Greyhound Inn. Stayed on recommendation of the cooked breakfast. We were shown to Room 11. We thought we had booked a double bed but had two singles pushed together. Missing wheels made them different heights. The room was a good size but was dirty with cobwebs everywhere and dead wasps on the carpet. One double socket in the room but one was blocked with tape. So one socket for the television, kettle, coffee machine, air con tower, iron and hairdryer. And the mirror is on the other side of the room so my hair looked interesting to say the least. Fortunately there were usb sockets on both sides of the beds so we could both charge our phones. Had to put the kettle on the floor to plug it in. But then found no tea or coffee or coffee pods. The bathroom is small but clean. However the shower gel bottle was empty. Came down for breakfast in the morning. We had been informed that continental breakfast was included in the room charge of £140. Cooked breakfast an additional £7.50. When we came down we were told there had been a hiccup in the kitchen so no cooked options were available. Continental breakfast consisted of 2 croissants, jam and butter. Poor selection of cereals and a fruit bowl. The croissants were brought out lovely and hot but we were not given plates for another 15 minutes when my husband had to go looking for someone to ask for them. The bar and toilets had not been cleaned since closing the night before, not even the bins emptied. I told all the above to the duty manager and she did apologise and said that this was not their usual standard. Another group in the dining room had 3 rooms booked for 4 nights. When they heard my complaints they said they had similar issues with their rooms. One of their rooms were over the kitchen and they were disturbed or woken by the chef's loud music. One person finally came down at 7am to complain. The chef seems to have taken exception and walked out. Hence no breakfast! No offer of a discount or any compensation offered. On the plus side we did sleep reasonably well and the towels were nice.
