After years of skiing and staying at nearby Sankt Anton, this year we decided to spend five days in Galtuer. What initially sounded like a weird move, turned out to be a very positive experience at many levels. One of them clearly is our stay in Galtuererhof, which is run by the wonderful couple Daniel and Emily. They are both English and German speaking and together with their staff they make you really feel welcome and at home. The Mozartkugel chocolates at reception are just one of those nice touches. The hotel is located at less than five minutes walk from the bus to both Ischl/Landeck and Wirl ski-areas, the Intersport opposite the bus stop (do not forget your 5% discount voucher at the big information table at the hotel), but also some other nearby shops (bakery, pharmacy). In case you have not exercised enough, there are also pilates lessons on Thursday evenings near the same busstop. Just ask Emily. After a day of skiing in the beautiful Ischgl/Samnaum area, you are home with the bus very easily (or you can take your car and park for EUR 5 at large parking). An afternoon home made soup welcomes you in the cosy bar (Check out the gin collection!) to reflect on your achievements before you enjoy the well designed wellness room, including big and fluffy towels, multiple showers, sauna, steamroom, loungers, footbath and (against a fee) whirlpool and infrared sauna. Worthwhile a visit! Dinner and breakfast are serviced in a very nice and spacious room with buffet style breakfast and in the evening a salad buffet is ready for you in addition to a daily soup (different from the afternoon one), choice of main (also for vegetarians!) and tasty deserts. Ask for their homemade lemonade, it is delicious! They also have a good wine list. One evening, cheese/meat fondues was offered in the bar seating area to external guests, as well as a performance of a local singer. Check out the programme beforehand to not miss out. The rooms can be reached by lift and stairs. And although the rooms are a bit dated (I call it Austrian folklore style), they are well maintained and thoroughly cleaned. Just bring your own amenities. No need to bring any hairdryer. Wifi was working without any problems and your skis/shoes are safe in downstairs room with heating. Another nice aspect of the stay is that the owner runs a fabulous ski-school through which you can book lessons. We booked three days touring and two days normal lessons and it was very high-level quality with extremely skilled and friendly teachers. Definitely recommended. We enjoyed our stay so much, that we definitely will be back.
