Visitation Hotel Frederick, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

We had a wonderful stay at the Visitation and we are so happy that Frederick has a boutique hotel in the middle of historic downtown. The location can't be beat as you can walk to cute shops and several different types of restaurants. The staff was kind and attentive and Dayna, one of the managers, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. We were the first to stay in a newly opened section and it felt like we had our own row house on W. Church street. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and we loved the charm of the building. We will definitely be back.

Stayed in room 413 which is the top floor and faces the front of the hotel. A very nice room. If you want to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation. Otherwise, there are many other good choices within walking distance. The staff is very friendly. There are no refrigerators in the room. Expect to pay extra for valet only parking... $25 for one night stay (plus tip) - not sure if this is a flat rate for any length of stay. Kind of steep for a small town, IMO. I would stay here again.

We were extremely pleased to be upgraded to a triple aspect room. The location, restaurant and the contemporary styled rooms were excellent. On the negative side was there was only a tiny cafe the offered breakfast sandwiches and snacks. They don’t serve breakfast in the dining room which for a high end hotel is unusual and very disappointing. The restaurant serves excellent food and we had dinner there twice. Highly recommend making reservations well in advance . They only opened in December 2024, it seems like they are still finishing up construction. The sliding doors for the bathroom and the shower were in need of adjustment. Definitely stay more than one day there are so many shops, bars, breweries, restaurants to check out. Also the Catoctin Mountains are only 30 minutes drive away.

We stayed in the Presidential/ Bridal Suite. The hotel offered to upgrade us before we arrived. Sounded good so we accepted. The entrance to the hotel is not clearly marked. Had to ask the valet how to get in. The hotel entrance lobby is one flight up from the street . The woman in charge informed us our room was not ready til 4 pm. It was 3 pm ….we mentioned that we had asked for 3 pm check- in and it was noted on the reservation. She blew us off and said she would charge an extra $50 if we got in before 4 pm. Another guest was also waiting and fuming at the rude treatment. We both told her we would not be paying her any extra! We waited for a bit and got in shortly before 4 pm . No extra $50 since the head concierge was now off duty and left. The room is not attached to the Hotel. You have to go outside and walk to it. The entrance to the living room closely resembles an auto dealership waiting room. Uncomfortable furniture, the tv did not work, and the floors were dirty with shoe prints. The bedroom is a few steps down . At 3 am we awoke to the sound of a bomb. It was the garbage truck right outside our bedroom dropping the dumpsters on the pavement. The Restaurant was wonderful! We would never stay at the Visitation again but stay close by to enjoy the Voltaggio’s hospitality and delicious menu.

I’ve never been so uncomfortable as I was in my room. The room wasn’t much larger than my king bed. There was no mini fridge nor was there a chair in the room. Only upside to the hotel is its location. Quite frankly, it was awful. I will not visit this property again.

This hotel hits the mark. We love Frederick and always said that the only thing that would make it better is a hotel downtown. Well, they certainly gave us that, didn't they? We stayed in a executive suite with a soaking tub and shower. The bed is very comfortable; I had a muscle spasm in my hip that cropped up about a week before and I slept like a baby in that bed. The whole building is dripping with history, but the upgrades to windows, fixtures, and design are flawless. The changes are respectful and appreciated. We loved the decorating. Water temperature and water pressure in the shower is excellent. Most of all, we loved the staff -- from valet to housekeeping to front desk to the wonderful hosting staff and serving staff at Wye Oak. We saw no flaws. That hotel is spotless, too. I dropped an earring in the bathroom and crawled on my hands and knees to find it -- someone cleaned that place with a toothbrush. Not a stray hair, not a puff of dust. That means a lot when everyone you know has the flu or norovirus. I also want to say that we chose this place for our anniversary weekend. Every single person on the hotel staff knew. The recognition was subtle -- a "thank you for choosing us on your anniversary", a bottle of sparking wine with a lovely note waiting for us -- which fit us: an acknowledgement without drawing attention. We changed a reservation from a very expensive resort to the Visitation Hotel Frederick, and we KNOW we made the right decision. The value for the money and the relaxing weekend we had trying restaurants and just hanging out in our suite was something that we know we couldn't have replicated anywhere else. Frederick is a fun town. This hotel means that we will be enjoying that fun town a lot more often. Highly recommended.
