We have stayed here before - when it was a top 10, just for one night & in a cabin. We had a great time & promised the kids we would return. We did & stayed 5 years later, in summer for a week with our friends. We booked together & requested sites next to each other. We arrived & we're given a site in area "B". The sites were very small. We only have a very small caravan (1979 poptop) & awning & we filled the entire width of our site. There was no space for our son to erect his tiny 2 man tent. The people next to us were having similar issues but kindly said we could pitch his tent in a small space between our two sites. The only issue was he kept donking his head on their caravan. Meanwhile, our friends arrived & were given a site far away from us - annoying as we had requested sites together - (area D), in sand, what appeared to be a literal sandpit - It appeared to be not an actual campsite at all - but the demolished area of a former permanent caravan. It was full of rusty nails, broken concrete & you couldn't pitch a tent on it. As it was Wellington anniversary weekend , the campsite was full & they had a large tent (there is no way they could fit on a site where we were). Thankfully, A lady camping near them realized what was happening & offered them a lovely site they had that was extra. We were still camping far from them though. Over the busy weekend, facilities struggled. There appeared to be a lack of toilets & showers for the amount of people there & often weren't overly clean. There was always a queue to use them. However, once everyone left after the long weekend, we were able to move to be by our friends (painful but worth it as we were staying a week). It was lovely once the campground wasn't so busy. We had lovely shaded, grassy sites (our previous one was dusty & dirty) by the playground, which was great for the kids & it was great to be able to use facilities freely. They were lovely & clean once it wasn't so busy. It was enjoyable & relaxing. Bbqs were immaculate & there are lovely BBQ areas that are shaded. Petanque & chess available too. There's a great playground right by the camp with great flying foxes & a pump track which kept them busy for hours. Over the busy weekend, they had a waterslide set up & even gave out free ice cream to the kids one day (real fruit!). Overall - we enjoyed our stay & would return. We just feel more care needs to be given to keep groups together when booking & perhaps to check the size of people's equipment when booking!
