I had 2 rooms booked for business the night of May 28th. My co-worker, who lives in Dallas, who was flying in that AM had his flights cancelled and issues at his house due to a storm early that AM. He cancelled his trip early that AM, so I immediately called and canceled his room, which I knew had a 48hr cancellation policy. The front desk ask why I was cancelling, I explained and they cancelled the room. When I checked in to my room that afternoon, nothing was said about the other room. The next day, I was charged for both rooms. I called and talked to the manager who refused to credit the room back to my card because I was within the 48hr window. I travel for a living- I have never had a hotel not let me cancel a room due to act of God type stuff. Most want you to come back, so they work with you. I got Bonvoy involved. No help. If there is the slightest chance of your customer cancelling, your flight getting canceled, or you critically hurt or killed in a car accident, I'd suggest staying anywhere but here. Your grieving spouse will have a hotel bill to pay. There is a Hampton Inn, Candlewood suites, Holiday Inn Express and several other hotels in town.
