Located in the middle of a jungle is a gem of a place. Beautiful interior and cozy villas. Amazing food and hospitality at its best. On the flip side there isn’t much you can do while it rains, preferably a gym and a spa with some indoor activities could help. Overall it was such a good experience kudos to the staff again who are working tirelessly to keep the guests comfortable.

TARU VILLAS WILPATU We were told (after we arrived) that the hotel had taken 3 years to build and had only been open for 7 months - however for $1000 per night you would expect much more and hence we were very disappointed with ……… * Very Sketchy wifi - I couldn’t work or connect with family/friends much of the time * Hot water runs out after 15 minutes so you are left with shampoo in your hair unable to wash out unless you do so in cold water (I was not happy at all) * Whilst the naturalist Ravi is a delightful young man who tries really very hard and he is absolutely lovely, the Safaris are quite mediocre - and if you have ever been on a safari in Africa - do not even bother here. * No Gym * No TV * No Spa treatments * Not even any board or card games available so when it rains and boy does it rain - even in the so called “dry season” you are left with NOTHING to do - you cannot sunbathe, cannot watch tv, cannot work, cannot have any spa treatments so you are left watching the rain and twiddling your thumbs. * Not even a yoga mat Whilst the staff are beyond incredible and really cannot do enough for you - Mark Anthony (Hotel Manager available 24/7) and his team are wonderful - it leaves a sour taste when you have paid so much money and so many things need massive improvements The food is exceptional - a lovely new menu every day and you can eat whenever you like Rooms are beautiful (quite dark) - beds and pillows very comfortable and linen is lovely, however there are no sun beds on your private patio so you HAVE to go to the pool if you want to sunbathe !! The hotel is part of a privately owned small chain and as such they should know better to have everything in place PRIOR to opening their doors to paying guests. However it is beautiful - both the grounds and the rooms but for that amount of money there needs to be much more and personally I think that EVERYTHING that is lacking should have been in place before opening their doors to paying guests !!! And travel agents should not be recommending them until all is in place. In addition they totally mucked up on our bill which should have had 1 whisky on it and they OVER charged us over £1,2000.00 - total incompetence. Would I come back - No

We were told (after we arrived) that the hotel had taken 3 years to build and had only been open for 7 months - however for $1000 per night you would expect MUCH more and hence we were very disappointed with ……… * Very Sketchy wifi - I couldn’t work or connect with family/friends much of the time * Hot water runs out after 15 minutes so you are left with shampoo in your hair unable to wash out unless you do so in cold water (I was not happy at all) * Whilst the naturist tries really very hard and he is absolutely lovely, the Safaris are quite mediocre - and if you have ever been on a safari in Africa - do not even bother here. * Not even a yoga mat Whilst the staff are beyond incredible and really cannot do enough for you - Mark Anthony (Hotel Manager available 24/7) and his team are beyond wonderful - it leaves a sour taste when you have paid so much money and so many things need massive improvements The food is exceptional - a lovely new menu every day and you can eat whenever you like Rooms are beautiful (quite dark), beds very comfortable. This is an experienced brand so there really is no excuse ! Would I come back - Sadly I don’t think so !

We just returned from a fabulous weekend at Taru villas Villu . We were pampered by the friendly service of the staff at the hotel lead by Malika and Mark who attended to the finest details . The food was an absolute treat and specially enjoyed the five course set menu dinner prepared by the chef . We did a morning safari from eluwankulama entrance accompanied by the naturalist - Ravi and was lucky to have some rare sightings such as the leopard, ceylon wood owl , and brown headed owl The room was pure luxury and enjoyed the space and jacuzzi Look forward to being the once again in the near future

My wife and I stayed two nights at Taru Villas and had the most magical stay. Mark Angelo the property manager went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. We arrived at 6am due to our flight from London and Mark ensured he greeted us, along with light snacks, to ensure we had an early check in for us to rest. The villa we chose included a plunge pool - the accommodation itself was stunning, huge! The bed was probably the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We enjoyed a safari trip organised by the hotel as well as a bike ride to the lagoon. The pool is beautiful. The food is on par with michelin starred restaurants anywhere in the world - absolutely fabulous. We chose the full board package. Every dish we had was truly delicious - we even asked the chef for the recipes of some of the dishes, which the kitchen staff kindly provided. Huge thank you to Mark for being on hand for any of our requests. Also a huge thank you to Jeevan for looking after us at the restaurant and bar every day. We will also miss our adopted dog Muddy who we loved. This is a fairly new property but the standard is amongst the best of the best. Will highly recommend to anyone thinking about visiting.

A simply beautiful hotel in an idylic and peaceful location. Our villa was stunning with every wish more than catered for. Mark and the team were amazing, they made our stay one that we will always remember as being perfect, for so many reasons, from their attentiveness to our safari and kayaking with Ravi.

This is a new Taru resort and the rooms, overall resort and amenities such as kayaks and bikes are great. The landscaping is definitely not pristine with an attention to detail definitely missing but as fauna develops hopefully it will become easier on the eye. My main complaint is the level of service for the price paid. The service is inconsistent, staff are poorly trained on hygiene and simple things such as food service and although extremely kind and willing they fail to reach any resemblance of service equated to a Small Leading Hotel of the world. I hope this can be rectified with better training and attention to detail as this could be a really great resort experience if better run!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Wilpattu, one of my all-time favorite spots, and staying at the lovely Taru Villas Villu. This brand new luxury boutique property was the perfect choice for an overnight stay. From the moment we reached Eluwankulama, Mark and his amazing team made us feel so welcome. Their warmth really set the tone for what turned out to be a wonderful experience. I still remember the signature welcome popsicle and canapés after our drive from Colombo; especially the wood apple popsicle, which was just incredible! The retreat itself is a beautiful blend of luxury and Sri Lanka's natural charm. Taru Villas Villu sits just a few minutes from Wilpattu National Park, surrounded by lush backwaters and greenery. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed, with eco-friendly touches that add to the sense of being in tune with nature. The highlight for me was definitely the villa's closeness to Wilpattu National Park. We took a guided safari that gave us the chance to see leopards, elephants, and other wildlife, such an unforgettable experience! They also organized some amazing cultural excursions, like a boat ride to Gange Wadiya and dolphin watching in Kalpitiya, which added so much to our stay. The food deserves a special mention too. The chefs here know how to bring out the best in Sri Lankan flavors, using locally sourced ingredients to create some truly delicious dishes. Every meal felt like a journey through the island's culinary heritage. What also stood out to me was how much Taru Villas Villu is involved with the local community. We got the chance to visit nearby farms and take a tour through the village, which made our time there feel much more meaningful. Whether you're heading out for a wildlife adventure in Wilpattu or just relaxing in the peaceful surroundings, Taru Villas Villu has something special to offer. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves nature and wants a bit of luxury, it's a truly stunning spot that shouldn't be missed!
