We recently visited the island of Euboea (Evia) for a friends wedding, staying four nights at the Almyra holiday village following a recommendation by the groom (a local). My wife was heavily pregnant at the time of our arrival, and the weather was a balmy 36°C. We had just completed a four hour flight, two hour drive, an hour long ferry. Suffice to say, we really wanted to arrive to a nice hotel. AND WE DID! We were made to feel so welcome on arrival by Katherine, who checked us in and showed us to our room, which was neatly furnished in a modern style, with everything working exactly as it should. There was even a fridge in the corner of the room with a fruit basket and complimentary water which was a nice touch. Unusually for coastal hotels in Greece, the hotel had its own pool, which is clean and well maintained, and which all of the rooms are built around, so our room had sliding doors directly on to the pool area, with two sun loungers reserved for use, right outside the room - a fantastic touch. In addition to the loungers, there’s a large amount of seating (sofas/chairs) around the pool, which is great when you fancy a change of scenery or want to get out of the sun. The hotel has a basic food and drink menu (think simple quick food, not a restaurant selection) which was very nice, but oh my goodness BREAKFAST was amazing. Each day we were served a basket of bread, boiled eggs, Greek yoghurt, empanadas, pastries, cake and more. It was a truly lovely way to start the day (if not a tad filling) and honestly we couldn’t have hoped for better food to start the day. Due to my wife’s pregnancy we were only drinking decaf coffee which was also not a problem - very much appreciated. In terms of location, the hotel is probably about a ten/fifteen minute walk from the main centre. As you exit the ferry port, you turn left and follow the beach road until the hotel appears on your right - it’s super easy and about a 2 mins drive if you have a car with you. The walk from the hotel to restaurants and bars is well lit and quiet traffic-wise. We made the trip at least 3/4 times, and there are mini markets and other shops along the way to keep hydrated if needed (we managed it just fine despite my wife being pregnant). Parking is really good and easy, everything is secure and the hotel locks everything up at night Really the only thing left to say/reiterate is how wonderful the staff were. We were always greeted with big smiles and friendly service, regardless of who was working, and this really did make the trip a pleasure. We would have no hesitation about staying here again next time we’re in the area.
