Albany Hotel

This hotel was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. A first class experience. The service was amazing. I highly recommend this property the staff made it feel like a home away from home.

Great location five minute walk into the city. Lovely big bedroom comfy beds and pillows, excellent bathroom, shower plus bath, friendly helpful staff , only downside they don’t serve breakfast but we found a great little place just a short walk walk away .

I stayed with a friend at the Albany Hotel in Edinburgh for 2 nights in June 2025. The hotel is in a quite central location, about 12 minutes walk from the main railway station. I had a single room which was quite small, especially in the bathroom you didn't have enough space to put your stuff on the sink. The room was very clean though. The staff at the reception was very helpful and friendly and our stay was nice.

Hotel is excellently located and only a 5 min walk to the nearest tram stop on York Place and walking another 5 mins gets you up and onto Princess Street. Our only gripe was the cleanliness of our room ie 202. First off we found that the cheap looking plastic toilet seat was loose due to the left side securing plastic fitting being broken and due to the seat moving the area below the hinged fitting was extremely dirty. The sink mushroom plug wouldn't hold water and just drained away as you ran the tap. Over at the window a mass of wires which appeared to be redundant phone cables were just left hanging under the window sill and two cables ran down the wall with the wire ends just tucked away behind the radiator. The dado rail that ran around the room at waist height was covered in dust and obviously hadn't had a damp cloth run over it in a while. One of the drawers of the dressing table was absolutely filthy and again looked like it had been like this for a while. Knowing the hotel had just had a renovation not so long ago who ever signed off on the brackets holding up the curtain pelmet needs to find another job. The good points. The staff who worked the reception couldn't have been nicer and made us very welcome on our arrival and were very polite on the phone when I called to inquire about something before travelling to Edinburgh. As for the price I suppose it's due to being in Edinburgh but for £180 a night I'd have thought some sort of breakfast would have been included even if only on a continental basis. On our departure I informed the reception of our issues and it can only be put down to a serious lack of supervision by someone who oversees the cleaning of the hotel in all areas.

The photos are rather misleading - my room suddenly looked very tired and dated compared to the ones in the images. My window also didn't open and there was no air conditioning, so the room got incredibly stuffy. The room is comfortable even if it's not as fancy as the ones in the photos, and the hotel is in a good location, but it's over-priced for what it is.
