It may not sound this way by the review I am about to share, but I’m fairly easy to please. As a traveler, if I’ve paid for a “name” hotel (in this case Hilton) with an indoor pool and a full hot breakfast I expect three things – a clean comfortable room/ bed, a pool large enough for someone over the age of 5 and good gluten free breakfast options due to food allergies. I can say 2 positive things about this hotel – the room was clean, and the staff was friendly. However, everything else was abysmal. Let me start with the room. When we walked in, it was hot. OK, no problem I thought, I’ll just turn the AC down. Did that, left to go to the pool and came back, still 79 degrees. I played and played with the thermostat in a vain effort to make it produce cool air for more than 30 seconds. There were no instructions and believe me it was NOT self-explanatory. I finally talked to the front desk, and she clerk on duty told me how to make it work, except it really didn’t. Our room stayed almost 80 degrees most of the night. On top of that, the beds were miserable. Hard mattresses, obviously far past the point of replacement. I think the floor may have been softer. I’ve stayed in cheaper hotels with far better beds. The “full hot breakfast” was a joke. As far as gluten free options, there was one tiny little warmer tray that consisted of lukewarm, soggy ‘cheese omelets’, equally soggy potatoes and nasty little sausage patties that were mostly pepper and filler. All three items were barely warm. Fruit choices were overripe bananas and whole apples. There was no cut up fruit at all. Even their coffee was bad. The pool is child sized and freezing. The room itself is warm, but the pool was about Polar Plunge temperature. An adult can maybe get three strokes in before banging into a pool wall. I quickly gave up. A few more notes about the room: The television had a bad picture and no sound. You had to turn it up to maximum to hear anything at all. The bathroom was clean, but the selection of available soaps and shampoos smelled like a combination of bug spray and cat pee. Thankfully, I brought my own. In summary, I find it shocking that Hilton would let its name be attached to such a run down, nasty establishment. If I’d had more than one night booked, I would have checked out and gone elsewhere. If this is what Hampton Inns have become, it’s incredibly disappointing. They used to be my ‘go to’ hotels if I could find one. Now I will hesitate before booking one again. To say this left a bad taste in my mouth is a big understatement.
