Very neglected hotel. In fact pretty awful hotel unfortunately. Booked an executive room which was not very clean, had leaking windows and grubby carpets. Hotel itself had worn carpets, weeds everywhere, just absolutely neglected. Stayed 3 nights and didn't see housekeeping once. In fact a handyman came to fix something to the door and the sawdust stayed on the carpet for 3 days. We advised about the rain pouring in the window but alternative rooms were cramped so took a chance and thankfully the rain stayed off! However certainly NOT a room that should be booked out as executive. Breakfast was OK if you like cooked stuff and toast. Cereals were basic. Sorry but it wasn't a good experience. You'd be better off in a Travelodge.

Had a pleasant four night stay here spoiled by the very poor food on offer. Not a lot of choice so picked the chicken mushroom pie with mash & veg only to find the pie was empty! Next day had the fish & chips (white fish description) that I could not eat due to it's unpleasant oily smell and taste. As if things couldn't get any worse on our last morning before a long trip home I thought I would have a full english breakfast to set me up for the day.Surprise surprise there's a note on the breakfast buffet saying "Sorry no bacon or fried eggs". Even "Faulty Towers" could manage a decent breakfast. Will not be staying here again.

When we arrived we were told that the room we booked and confirmed in October 2024 was no longer available. We were given an alternative room at a slightly reduced price. This room was very small, the decor in poor condition and the bathroom very poor indeed. During our 4 night stay the beds were not made once and we struggled to get clean towels. Often, there were not enough staff in the hotel. Parking was good and the breakfast quite good too. We would not stay here again and were pleased to get home.

Just so sad to see a place I used to love to stay and eat in go into decline. The staff (Angela - Team Leader) and atmosphere recently was just so miserable and music made it dismal. Old clientele makes it feel like a nursing home. Food - well what can I say, I had the braised beef. Very small, what has happened to the sauce?! And no veg just peas! Pudding was very small also. Water jug so dirty. Then they seem to be conning customers (main £12.95) (dessert £4.95). This totals £17.90, but be careful as they try to charge customers £20.95 for a two course dinner. Close to shutting down

Let’s be clear from the start, we got this room for £60 B&B, this ain’t the Ritz so don’t expect it to be. The Royal is a slice of history and steeped in British military might, in its day it would have been sensational. Now the old gal is showing her age BUT for the price we were extremely happy. Check in was quick, we were in room 104 which is in the lower basement wing to the left of the hotel. Lovely and quiet away from the noise of the bar entertainment. We asked for a twin and with the singles pushed together it made an amazing super king bed European style with a duvet each, just how we like it. Mattresses were firm but excellent for our age related aches and pains and the bedding was immaculately clean. The room had ample refreshments and complementary toiletries which we really appreciated. The hot water was up and down a bit but with some careful mixing we had fabulous power showers. Plenty of loo roll too. We did have to give the basin a wipe down and chase a few spiders out but again for the price this didn't impact on our stay. Internet WiFi is non existent and mobile signal is poor, no issue as it was nice to log off and relax. There was a tv with basic channels which was sufficient. 7 minute walk to all the action on the main drag, chippies galore and plenty of rock and souvenir shops. Totally trashy and delightful. The staff were friendly and relaxed, I got the sense they get a bit of flack from some guests - come on folks, if you want five star then dig deep and pay five star prices - it isn’t the staffs fault so give them the respect they deserve. Now to breakfast - this is simply exceptional and rounded off our one night stay beautifully. See pics for the menu, something for everyone. The bacon and sausages were a treat, nice and well done and crispy. Sincere compliments to the chef and kitchen team, keep up the good work!! We will most definitely be back to the Royal, a magnificent seaside institution that we hope continues sharing her kitsch delights for years to come.

Never been to Skegness before, I absolutely loved the place. This hotel was traditional and old fashioned. Huge hotel and I bet in it's hay day this was a stunning hotel. I personally had no issues with my room. I was very happy infact. But whilst in reception, 2 people were complaining asking for their rooms to be changed. I don't know the reasons why but they were not happy. They had lots of activities in the evening, books and games you can borrow. The staff were friendly and the guests were super friendly and adorable I was made to feel very safe as a solo female. The WIFI was shocking! They say it's offered through out the hotel, but you could not get it in your rooms. I went to reception and she said she will have to go in the loft- she didn't I dud not get any WIFI in my room (I was not the only person to complain about this) not the endcof the world, I just sat in the lounge to plan my next steps. Breakfast no complaints plenty on offer and staff super friendly. If I visit Skegness again I would return to the Royal

First time stay at this hotel as part of a package coach holiday for four nights . First the positives - food was good , service in the dining room for evening meal good but probably wanted us in and out on reflection being part of a coach party . Hotel was in a quiet but close location to the centre of Skegness . The bed in the room was comfortable. Room was generally clean and tidy on arrival . The negatives - Very poor housekeeping , we had an issue on arrival with the room which was reported straight away , however not rectified at all during our four night stay , depite being reported more than once . The walk in shower in the room was very small and the temperature changed frequently meaning that there was the risk of scalding when it became very hot . No hand towels in the room on arrival . The room was not serviced once during the stay meaning the rubbish bins overflowed . There was plaster dust for days on our landing . Not sure if the hotel owned a vacuum cleaner ? The dining room mirror was heavily smeared and the room was dingy , dull and generally tired looking . The water carafe was in need of change looked very worn . There was food debris left on the table from the evening before , so obviously table not properly cleaned . The gents toilet in the lobby had soiling in the toilet pan on the first day of the stay which was not cleaned at all during the whole of the stay . The public rooms including the bedroom were not very well maintained - threadbare carpets , worn out furniture . The facilities such as the bar was not large enough to accommodate the amount of guests . Bar service was hit and miss especially at meal times as staff stretched too thin . The majority of the staff appeared rude , unorganised , petty , idle and miserable . The manager appeared to be as useful as a chocolate fire guard . I can only assume that this hotel is so badly run and staff are as described above due to poor moral because of his attitude and management style . The hotel has potential but sadly it appeared uncared for . Other points - Only went to entertainment first night which was not on every night of the stay . The car park has EV chargers . There was a small well kept garden area with table and chairs on the sea side . WiFi adequate . Buffet hot breakfast and table service evening meal . Conclusion - Would not stay here again if planning to visit Skegness . I think it is one of the worst run hotels we have stayed at in the UK or anywhere else in the world and we have travelled extensively .

Whole place is very” tired “and needs a good clean and revamp. Breakfast really poor even by the usual self service “ buffet” style that is common through this type of accomadation. The on-suite shower room was dirty. There was wet towel in sink because of dripping tap. If you are unfortunate to stay here get a room which is not above the bar. The extremely loud “live” music sounds like it in you room!
