Irish Cottage Inn & Suites

Good hotel but overpriced a bit. We paid around $400 for the night including an early check in so our child would not have to nap in the car. Hotels got so awkward with late check ins. So inconvenient. The room was clean and the overall experience at the hotel was good. Except the pool, the chlorine was literally burning my eyes. The food at the restaurant was ok, burger wasn’t the best. Breakfast is free and tasty.

We recently enjoyed our recent two-night stay at the Iris Cottage Inn and Suites. Our room was clean, nicely decorated and surprisingly spacious. Afternoon tea and breakfast buffet were not extravagant but perfectly adequate and delicious. It feels like you are visiting Dublin as well as Galena.

I have written very few reviews. I have visited Galena many times over the past 35 years. In truth, all the lodging offerings in Galena are of moderate luxury so it’s advised to have reasonable expectations. In past years I have stayed at Eagle Ridge Lodge, Stoney Creek Inn, a few B&B’s and Country Inn and Suites. However, that said, the Irish Cottage Inn and Suites exceeded my modest expectations. Staff were very welcoming and professional. The property was spotless. My one bedroom premier suite was very spacious. Yes, the couch and chair cushions are quite firm and not especially comfortable. The custom Irish crafted and installed woodworking in the lobby, restaurant and library was very beautiful. Breakfast was well tended by staff, having a nice selection of choices, and typical for what one expects of these free breakfast hotel offerings. The pool and hot tub were very well-maintained in every way. I didn’t utilize the hiking trail but had a room facing the woods and trail and found the view pleasant Dinner at Frank O’Dowd’s was very enjoyable – I had the pork medallions with bourbon/mustard/glaze. I was inspired to buy a bottle of sweet bourbon glaze from the cannery store downtown Galena and upon arriving home grilled up pork chops with glaze applied and they were terrific! I have dined at the log cabin State cause many times and did so again this trip. I had amazing service and an outstanding dinner – The filet shishkebab everything was great! I look forward to staying again at this Independent gem amongst average franchised hotel offerings.

We spent three nights at the Irish Inn and Suites in early September for our anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.Our room was very large with a sitting area, a separate sink and mirror from the tub/shower and toilet area with a door, a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The TV system took a little bit of trial and error as was the heating/cooling system. We did figure them both out but maybe a crash course when we checked in would have been helpful, or instructions in the room. We ate one breakfast on sight and it was good, a little limited the morning we ate but more than sufficient. The fruit was excellent. There was a problem with the OJ that morning. The attendant, didn't catch his name, was doing it all. Greeting people, getting plates for the fruit/toast/scone area, taking orders for the breakfast and delivering the breakfast in a very timely manner. The OJ ran low and so he went to get more but later overheard in a coversation with ? owner that what he found to put out was not good and so he was did not put out more OJ. Very impressed with that. We also ate there one evening. My husband had a huge reuben with fries that was excellent and I had the fish and chips. The breading on the fish was a little soggy but the fish was really good. It was a also served with a small side of kale slaw that was so good I told the server to tell the chef how much I enjoyed it. When we got ready to leave, the server brought me a small side to take with me to enjoy later! Again very impressed. We enjoyed the charm of the Inn and thought the tea was a cute idea. We did not partake as we are not tea drinkers but there were a couple of ladies that did to that was nice to see, so it wasn't going to waste. We did not utilize the shuttle but liked that it was available. We had no trouble parking downtown but we were then on Labor Day and the three days that followed so I think it wasn't as busy as prior to Labor Day. There is not daily housekeeping, which was just fine with us, but for some that may be a problem. You can request to have housekeeping if it is so desired. We would stay at the Irish Inn and Suites again.

The rooms are incredible, staff is so helpful, courteous, they made you feel like a family!! The beds just put you to sleep! The couch in the suite not the most comfortable, but we were not there to stay in the hotel!! The food in the restaurant is amazing!! I had the steamed mussels, whiskey glazed salmon and the Shepard's pie. The entertainment in the bar will not disappoint! A lot of history in this hotel as well, it was brought from Ireland and is so authentic, architecture is amazing and the the artwork is amazing you have to go to each floor to check it out. All in all this is a place that we would defiantly come back to

My understanding is that the hotel is now under new ownership and I could really tell the difference. The nice Irish Breakfast from our previous stays was replaced with a substandard, small buffet that you would expect from a lesser hotel. Coffee was so watered down it was undrinkable. Prices in the restaurant/bar have gone up. I paid $15 for the smallest glass of wine I have ever seen. I asked the waiter if this was even a wine glass and his reply was this was their wine glass. The only plus was that they now offer a shuttle to the downtown Galena area.

Such a great place to stay!! My whole family was just there. We enjoyed the breakfast, the rooms, the afternoon tea and the proximity to Galena. Definitely will stay again!! Also like the new stash points program. We really like the fact that it was such a quaint hotel! Not just like all the other chains!

Amazing experience! The room was wonderful; the warm breakfast was delicious, and the shuttle service was fantastic! We really appreciated Brian and how much he helped us manage our stroller, diaper bag, and shopping bags. He went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable on our trip. We will definitely be back!

Irish Cottage Inn was one of the best hotel stays we've ever had! From the moment we pulled up front and took in the authentic look of the exterior, we knew we were in for a special experience. We arrived during the afternoon tea time and were able to enjoy a quick cup of tea in the beautiful library room as we enjoyed the beauty of the hotel's main space. We were impressed with our room's size and later discovered that the beds were just heavenly-great mattresses, bedding and so blissfully quiet. We swam in the lovely pool (thankfully a comfortable temp!). We had the complimentary breakfast at the connected Frank O'Dowd's pub. All freshly-made, hot food and my son particularly loved the fresh Irish oats. We had massage treatments later in the day at the Galena Day Spa, which is within the hotel. My Reflexology session by Barbara Duncan was just wonderful- she specializes in this treatment for feet and hands-I only wish I'd booked a longer session! We returned to the pub for dinner and enjoyed the live contemporary Celtic band from Wisconsin that was playing that eve. The place was packed but they found us a table and served us right away. Everything we ordered from the food to the beers was spot-on and delicious, and we could tell that there was a skilled chef in the kitchen overseeing the preparation and plating of everything. My husband's pint of Guiness was poured to perfection- even had the little shamrock on top where they finished pouring from the tap. One of the themes of this hotel is attentive staff- every space was tidy, all of the breakfast attendants were quickly and seamlessly clearing tables and refreshing the buffet, and our server at dinner was equally efficient and friendly. Loved the free shuttle service and nice driver, Brian! Really helped to have this service to get downtown on the busy holiday weekend. This hotel is doing everything right! It is rare to find a place like this these days- my whole family was truly delighted. Will definitely stay there again when in the area and will recommend it to others!
