The Junction Hotel and Hostel

The Junction Hotel & Hostel is conveniently located near the 8 mile long Animas River Path which is the best way to walk or bike into town. On the way to town, only about ¼ of a mile from the hotel, is the excellent Durango Library. I stayed here for 2½ weeks. I was going to leave after about 9 days, but I couldn't find anything within the same price range that had a private room and a kitchen. Although I was staying in the hotel, and the kitchen and lounge are primarily for the hostel guests, the staff let me use it since I was staying for a while. They also let me store my bike in the office when it was raining. As another reviewer pointed out, the rooms are average. The pool is right next to a busy street, so not that appealing. The kitchen has the absolutely cheapest cutlery, pots and pans that money can buy! At one point I counted just 3 spoons, although I was told they had more in reserve. The plates and bowls were mostly plastic, but they did have a couple that were ceramic. I ended up buying a ceramic mug from a thrift store since they only provided paper cups for coffee and tea! Despite the ill-equipped kitchen, I—along with my fellow guests—managed to prepare and eat our food. The staff was friendly and helpful and I found that they were open to suggestions—paper towels appeared after I mentioned that napkins weren't the ideal way to dry one’s dishes! So, regardless of the drawbacks, I found the Junction Hotel & Hostel to be a pretty good value considering the upsides!

I selected The Junction on price. For my weekend it was the cheapest, right around $100/night. It's not a bad hotel but not great, either. The staff is very nice and helpful, the hotel is clean and it is very well located, right at Main Ave & 22nd Street. Also good if you are inclined to use the Durango bike/walking path that leads into town, running along the Animas River behind the motel. Otherwise, just an average place. Some scars on the bathroom door of my room, some gaps in caulking around tub/shower, A/C worked fine but fan very noisy, in-room refrigerator worked fine, king bed okay at best, furnishings like bedspread and towels below average. Did not use kitchen facilities which are available to all at the motel/hostel. Two notes -- doors are quite noisy when closing, both interior and exterior, and the motel has a policy of cleaning every third day. Didn't bother me at all but might be a problem for others.

Staying at Junction Creek Hostel was a good experience. The employees made it special! Overall, I had a great time and recommend it to everyone visiting the Durango area. I have to use at least 200 characters to post a review. So, to end this task, I want to let you know that I plan to stay at Junction Creek Hostel again.

This is our go to hotel in Durango because the value for the money is unbeatable. It's an older property that has recently been renovated. We've found it to be clean and has lots of character. Best of all the staff is super friendly and accommodating, and the coffee in the lobby is delicious!

My son an I were on a hiking trip and this property provided a good and economical stay. Our room had been remodeled and was clean. Beds were new and comfortable. The price was right for the type of stay we were looking for as part of our trip to experience the outdoors!

On the water with picnic table and chairs remodeled very clean and nice front desk was very nice very accommodating the swimming pool looks really fun place to relax and have a drink. Walking distance from everything what a fun place to be Durango was nice

I have never experienced unprofessionalism as bad as this motel. I am a local, I checked in for 1 week looking for some peace and quiet away from home on Sunday 3/24. Monday 25th my husband ends up in the emergency room and I had to cancel the stay. Due to their office hours, closed between 11 and 3, I had to wait till after 3 to cancel the rest of my week stay, so the front desk staff said I would still need to pay for Monday night, but the rest of the time could be canceled and refunded. The rest of the time equaled 5 nights, Tuesday 3/26 - Sunday 3/31. On Tuesday I called to check on the refund and was told by operational manager Joe that I would not be refunded any portion of my stay and there was nothing he could do. With the week reservation I received a discounted rate, so I stated it would be fair to refund the full amount of the stay and charge me the full nightly rate for the 2 nights I had the room reserved. This also was not allowed as an option. I asked to speak with someone else and waited for a call back. Joe attempted to avoid contact with me, excusing himself as busy when asked why he hadn't returned my calls over a couple days time. He had his employee call me back on Thursday to tell me I couldn't be refunded but I could receive a credit for a future stay. I asked why there wasnt someone else I could speak to, and was told the corporation that owns the motel takes 7 months or more to get in contact with. I would not stay here again or support this business operation further, and would advise anyone who may potentially have their trip plans change mid-stay (emergencies can happen to anyone), to consider another option, because you will not be respected here and your money will be stolen; in my case, $500 lost, (spent on 1 night stay and one extra night reserved due to timing).

The highlight was meeting Molly, the front desk attendant, who went way above and beyond for us. She was very personable and interesting and really a down to earth, kind person that is helping the world be a better place. Not only did she quickly deliver extra blankets, she found a pair of reading glasses to lend. Beyond her excellent service, the bed and pillows were just the right softness and the room was super clean.
