Dunster Castle Hotel

What a gem this hotel is! Loved everything about it. Decor is amazing. Bedroom has everything you need. Fresh milk for coffee given to you when checking in plus cookies in the room. The owners are so friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. A shame the bar and restaurant aren’t open but we intended to eat out as meeting friends anyway. Breakfast was fabulous. You chose the night before but could literally have anything you liked on the menu. I had Eggs Benedict with sausage and mushrooms. Really very good. Would definitely recommend and hopefully return ourselves.

We have just eaten the best breakfast ever! Slept in the most comfy warm room, amazing shower, complimentary sherry. Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Off street parking, free WiFi. Bang central of the town. Would definitely come again. What more could you want. Highly recommend.

Wonderful hosts who made us feel right at home. Beautiful decor throughout. Our room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and quiet. The location is perfect with on site parking which is a huge bonus in the centre of town. The breakfast was delicious especially the porridge! Because the hotel was not serving food that evening we were recommended an excellent restaurant within walking distance.

The narrow entrance to the carpark is challenging and only experienced drivers should attempt it. Once parked up though the setting of this hotel within the lovely Dunster village becomes apparent. With no dinner available at the time of visiting (staff availability issues are global) we used the sumptuous Reeves right across the road and the following day walked the steep 5 minutes to the amazing Dunster Castle before driving across the road to the beach and heritage steam line. The room, an upgrade to a luxury one, looked over the high street, was very large with a big comfy bed. Pre-ordered breakfast was slightly delayed as the chef made sure the eggs were as good as they should be, and the fresh fruit salad was an eye opener. The owners and staff were friendly, putting their own spin on the room welcom. The only areas for improvement: WiFi that works and some air fresheners to keep the mustiness of an old building under control. If we need an overnight stay near Minehead again, we will use both hotel and restaurant again.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night it was so lovely we would have loved to stay more. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful with everything. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and the bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. We were able to leave the car in the car park after checkout while we visited the Castle. As long as you’re careful have someone guiding you and go slowly the entrance to the car park is fine. We would love to stay here again.

Lovely olde worlde building with a recently refurbished interior to a high standard. I was kindly given an upgrade as they felt it would be more suitable for me with my two collies who were very welcome. So I had a huge very comfy king size bed in a large room facing the High Street. In the room was sherry, sparkling water, tea, coffee and biscuits. Also provided was milk in the communal fridge but I had brought my own and some fruit juice so it was lovely to be able to keep it nice and cold in there. As my first morning I was going out before their breakfast time I was also given a large packet of sandwiches to take with me. The reasons I have only given four stars are (1) because the windows were painted shut. My two nights there were both very warm and although a small fan was provided I was very hot and craved some fresh air. (2) the entrance to the car park is extremely narrow, flanked by rough stone walls and a fire escape has to be negotiated. I got in both times alright with my Volvo Estate but coming out the first time put some scratches on the handle and the wheel arch. The proprietor helped to guide me out both times and maybe seriously or in jest advised that if I was not comfortable using the car park entrance I should not have attempted it! Another couple who were also waiting to get their car out had scratched it on entering the previous day. The only reason I chose this hotel to stay in was because it was advertised as being the only hotel in the village with its own carpark and having to walk down the High Street with two dogs and two bags from the Pay and Display carpark would have been impossible for me. The lack of an evening meal due to staff shortages did not bother me.

A fabulous hotel with wonderful hosts Lisa and John. We had a really warm welcome from Lisa, shown to our room which didn’t disappoint with high standards of cleanliness and very tasteful decor and furnishings. We immediately felt at home there. The choice of food available for breakfast is 5 star and the quality and service by both Lisa and John was exceptional. We couldn’t fault our stay of 3 nights and hope to return soon. A perfect location for exploring Dunster and the surrounding areas.

We went to celebrate our 65th Wedding Anniversary. We were a bit unsure because of our ages but we were made so welcome and so comfortable that it was easy. We were given so much help with the loading and unlading of the car and even a lift to and from our celebration night dinner venue. The stairs were difficult, but we managed. The breakfasts were very good indeed.

This feels like an upmarket b&b rather than a hotel, not because of its size, but because the owners are so warm and friendly. John and Lisa clearly take pride in running their hotel and it shows. Our room was nicely decorated, well equipped and very clean, the bed was huge and comfy. We were worried when we arrived about the potential for noise from the road, especially as our room faced straight out on to traffic lights (engines revving etc). However, this proved not to be the case as we slept really well, though it may be more of a problem in the summer with the windows open. There were earplugs in the bedside table if we had needed them. Breakfast was super, and ordering it the night before meant that it arrived almost as soon as we sat down at the table. The personal touch is very obvious here, and so lovely to find when so many places have become so corporate and anonymous.
