We stayed here for one night only as a stop off in January. The Christmas decorations were still up which gave it a really warm embracing feeling. The building is beautiful as is the inside. It’s not been modernised at all which was nice to see to be honest. Because it’s very old inside it does have a musty smell in some areas though. There wasn’t very many people around when we were there so we had the pool room all to ourselves that night , it’s quite an eerie room that one though, as are the toilets just off of it, we kept hearing noises in there! The whole place has the eerie vibe to be honest but I think it’s just how old it was. There’s so much history and each room tells you something about the building. We had a 3 course meal whilst there, not the best food I’ve ever eaten but also not the worst. Price was £35.50 each. Drinks just averaged price too. The stairways to the rooms were basic, smelled a little fusty and not decorated for a while. The room again the same, very basic inside, bathroom looked like it had a bit of blood on our wall, but other than that it was ok. Again not decorated for a long time, cracks in ceiling, windows need a good clean, beds weren’t all that comfy if I’m honest. But for one night I didn’t complain. This hotel could be made to be absolutely amazing and really elegant but it would need a fortune spending on it. It’s like it’s stuck in a time warp from many years ago, but I actually liked it like that. Maybe a good scrub up would do it justice!
