First surprise and warning: Room was prepaid, but our credit card was charged $100 "for incidentals". I've often provided a number for such but I've never before had an actual charge before even entering the room. So far, 3 days later it has not been refunded. Incidentals? There were no hand towels, no tissues, no hair dryer, not even one clothes hanger...what would we be charged for? At first glance, it looked fairly clean, but as we looked closer, the extra cleaning needed would not have been because of us. No one had dusted the wall lights in months, maybe years. Breakfast? "Our grab and go breakfast"? Uh, no. Not even a way to get coffee or tea, since there was no way to do it in the kitchenette. Not only was there no whiff of such a thing when we were ready to leave, the office didn't even open until 9 a.m. and to check out without just leaving your room keys for anyone to pick up, you had to wait until then. (We went out and got breakfast at a nearby Panera and came back to check out.) As to the +: The beds were quite clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean except for the grunge at the bottom of the shower curtain (and the usual dirt in the corners of the floor). The linens that were provided (two bath towels and two wash cloths) were clean and not worn. The carpet seemed to be adequately clean even if it didn't look that way, although the edges and corners hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner in a while. BUT: We probably should have taken pictures and made a list of the issues after we first entered just in case they claimed we did the damage we observed. To get the lights over the beds to turn on, you had to pull one bed away from the wall and choose among the three things that could only be plugged in there. (Well, ok, we could have moved the clock and then figured out how to reset it. This would have required disengaging the cord from the telephone cord, which would have been no small chore.) The rest of the furniture was very worn, with strips coming off edges, small holes and tears in the vinyl covering of the arm chair, drawers not completely clean and sort of hanging rather than closing. The kitchenette (which we didn't use) had absolutely no utensils, cooking equipment or even glasses for drinks. There was one drawer completely missing. The toilet seat was loose. I understand not providing shampoo, conditioner or lotion, but really...no tissues? It is not the hotel's fault that access off of and onto Route 29 was less than convenient depending on the direction you were going, but it was one more annoyance. If we have the misfortune to need to stay in Malvern again, we'll know better than to choose such a "bargain" price. If you can afford it (which we could have but didn't know how tacky and shabby this place is), I recommend you spend a little more for a little nicer room.
