Sunbright Inn

There are renovations and there are historic renovations. The Sunbright Inn in Defuniak Springs recently went through a significant renovation of one of the original Chataqua homes in Walton County that was constructed in the 1880's. What you see today is thorough, extensive, and an outstanding job of a historic renovation. Make it a point to visit old Florida with a stop in Defuniak Springs and learn about the Chataqua movement from the late 1800's that began in New York. Walk around their nationally designated historic district that contains close to 200 buildings as part of the district. And by all means, book a stay at the historic Sunbright Inn. My wife and I have traveled fairly extensively, and you won't find any better accommodations than at the Sunbright Inn.

The best experience ever!!!! You truly feel like you have stepped back in time. Each room is exquisitely done and absolutely. Extremely clean and the attention to detail is amazing. The family that runs it are truly the nicest people. I would highly recommend everyone stay there at least once. We have stayed there twice and we will be back!!!

This place is outstanding! The hosts are beyond attentive and kind, the building is SO beautiful, the beds are remarkably comfortable, rooms are equipped with everything you might need for comfort and the bathroom is amazing!!! All the rooms are different, ours had a huge bathroom with a modern clawfoot tub and a huge glass shower, absolutely lovely! We had our morning coffee in the living room which is beautiful both in construction and decor, and filled with the most wonderful huge windows so flooded with light. Many of the many chandeliers are antiques and beautifully cared for so they sparkle and shine wonderfully. Other rooms have balconies and/or private sitting rooms, or other wonderful features. There is even a room with turret sitting in this wonderful old mansion that has been beautifully restored so it is modern in comfort and visually a beautiful blend of antique and modern. The parking is secure and onsite, and you are only a few blocks from the beautiful spring fed lake that gives DeFuniak Springs it's name. The downtown section is also charming with a number of restaurant options, a charming museum in the old railroad depot, and the oldest library in the state still lovingly cared for. The walk around the lake is lovely, and there are may beautifully cared for old houses to look at as you walk, as well as a fountain, places to sit, and wonderful old trees. I absolutely adored this wonderful place, and will return as many times as I can. OH! and have some rooms that are dog friendly!!!

This historic inn was recently restored and it must look even better than the original! Each room has a different theme and the attention to detail is amazing. The owners, David and Heather, have a lot of experience in hospitality to also deliver great service to their guests.

The accommodations were excellent. Beautiful decor in each room. Our bed was so comfortable. Owners were so pleasant and helpful. Was decorated for the holiday, beautifully. Very Victorian mansion style. Our room was very comfortable.

We weren’t planning to stop in DeFuniak Springs, but found ourselves in need of a room when our car broke down nearby. A customer at the repair shop recommended this hotel and I’m so glad she did! We were able to book the room online, and immediately received confirmation by text. We arrived 30 minutes later & everything was ready. We had a few questions about getting in & the owner responded immediately by text. It couldn’t have been easier! We stayed in the Magnolia room on the first floor, which was well appointed & VERY comfortable. The shower was fabulous!! It was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into the design, from the beautiful chandeliers, to the gorgeous drapery, authentic furniture, in-room fireplace, and even push button light switches. We walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner & afterwards enjoyed relaxing in the main room. I wish we could have stayed longer than 1 night!
