A beautiful oasis of calm in the noise and bustle if darjeeling. Largely overlooking the central part of the city and easy walking distance to fascinating markets and temples. There should be fabulous views of the Himalaya but I can't comment as we had an entire week of fog and mist (not the fault of the hotel of course). The hotel has large bedrooms and bathrooms...with comfortable and very large beds...a welcome relief from other hots on our travels. The bedrooms I guess have great views. Perhaps lacking is air conditioning which might be an issue as opening windows is discouraged due to local monkeys. Bathrooms are modern with double basins and separate shower and bath. The common areas are as they should be for a heritage hotel. Lots of period character. Food has been excellent- difficult to fault nland easy to praise. Staff, again as one would expect, were exceptional. Negatives? We were unlucky and we shared our floor with a selfish family group that kept their doors open so children could run back and forth, shouting and generally have fun - all very well, but not as it approached midnight. Hotel security did their best but it's difficult to deal with selfish, entitled people sometimes. It happens. Darjeeling is lovely. Great character...and of course the mountain railway.

The room especially and the whole hotel property were excellent, very tasteful and comfortable. The service is outstanding. The staff have been extremely courteous and helpful, always smiling. The buffet offerings could have had more variety.

This is my 2nd time spending Christmas at Elgin with my family, and I can truly say that we are thoroughly enjoying our time! From the ambience to the delicious food, it feels like home!! The staff never fail to have a smile on their face and their hospitality is commendable. The rooms are spacious and have the same vintage charm like the rest of the spaces in the property. Not to forget, the views from each room is breathtaking!!! We are absolutely loving our stay and we can't wait to create more memories with Elgin!

A fabulous hotel with wonderful staff. The rooms are huge and have lovely views of the mountains. It's in a great location, a short walk from town but away from the noise. Thanks to all the staff for an amazing stay. We'll definitely be back again.

Good location with easy walk to centre of Darjeeling. Lovely staff. No central heating so they put heaters in the room and a lovely *** brings hot water bottles for your bed. Rooms are large. Food ok. However, the hotel is very, very tired and could do with an upgrade. Unfortunately found someone else’s nightie in bathroom cupboard.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Elgin which is located in easy walking distance to the main shopping and markets area. Also a short 2k walk to the outstanding Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and famous Zoo. The service was always professional, attentive and helpful (Priyanka, Dileep and Ashoka are just a few names). The buffet style food for breakfast and dinner was also of a high standard. Both inside and outside areas are wonderfully enjoyable to sit and enjoy lunch and a beautiful cup of Darjeeling tea. Our only recommendation would be for an update to the bedding and bath towels but we still rated it 5 stars as everything else far outweighed that small negative. Would highly recommend this historic hotel for an authentic Darjeeling stay. Janet & Baz, Australia.

I and my family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Elgin. The hotel is very near to the mall and is clean, hygenic place. it is very well maintained without the vintage furnitures and modern amenities. The food was also delicious and they prepared special food on request for my infant daughter. The high tea concept also was superb.

This would have been a 4 star review had it not been for the fact that last night they decided to paint the room next to ours in the middle of the bloody night meaning we got no sleep. This is not acceptable. It’s a heritage hotel and the rooms are very interesting and the service is impeccable. The food is good although I didn’t really need a 4 course meal. I did like the silver teapots for the tea, complete with tea cost! There are lots of interesting photos on the walls and the furniture is period.The heritage style extends to the beds, however, which had a hard and lumpy mattress.
