Vogur Country Lodge

I recently joined my colleagues for a company retreat at the Vogur Country Lodge. This lodge is located in prestine country side on the south west coast 3 hrs from Reikyavik. If you want to unplug from your busy life and reflect this is a wonderful place to do it. The Scenery is out of this world. The lodge offered a comfortable stay. Beyond the setting this lodge provided some of the best quality locally sourced food I've ever had. The quality, presentation and most importantly, the flavours were fantastic.

I would say the hotel is four stars because it is in a beautiful location and very comfortable. However, it is very remote and a long drive just to get off the gravel road to go anywhere. The food I would give five stars. The restaurant was phenomenal for dinner and the breakfast was also excellent. Please note the breakfast is an additional charge. However, service at the restaurant I would give two stars. We stayed at the hotel for two nights. The first night we decided to eat before moving our things into our room because we were hungry after our long drive. The service that night was excellent and the restaurant was busy but I did notice that they were giving lots of attention to us and not serving people who had been seated before us. The second night we were completely ignored. When we arrived at the restaurant, there were only two other tables with customers. We sat down at a table, and proceeded to wait and wait and wait while four other groups, who arrived after us, were handed menus and had their orders taken and drinks served. When my husband got up to ask for menus, we were told we needed to be patient. I am a very patient person, but not when I’m obviously being ignored, and all the tables surrounding us were being served and helped, and no one was even looking at us as they passed our table. Our table only two place settings for four of us. When we finally got our food, the owner seemed very put out because we needed 2 more place settings. His waiter from Poland was delightful. I really appreciated his positive, happy attitude and attention when we needed something. He gets a 5 but the manager’s attitude, rudeness and lack of caring about returning customers gets 1 star. After reading previous reviews I can see that his customer service needs help. But the young man from Poland was wonderful! This hotel restaurant is the only place to eat being so far out. They need a better way to serve all the customers. They should know that the majority of the people staying at the hotel will be eating there and devise a plan to be able to serve everyone. They should either have more people working or they should have a reservation/sign up list so that everybody doesn’t come during the same hour which seemed to be between 7:30 and 8:30. The food was excellent, but the manager was not polite and it was like he had already won us over the night before, so there was no need to impress us and instead would be attentive to the new patrons.

Very calm and friendly place to stay to discover westfjords. Renewed farm offers clean rooms or suits, in the middle of wild nature. Great owners, always ready to help and serve You. Room warms, clean, comfortable beds. We have really enjoyed the food in the restaurant - thats was the biggest wow. Breakfast are very simple, but acceptable. Discover the natural thermal pools or take a wheal seesight trip - all 1,5 hrs distanced from the hotel. We would appreciate daily change of towels and bathroom cleaning - but we are very special in that…

Great place. Everything at the property was clean and well appointed. Dinner was excellent and the after dinner walk to the falls was refreshing. Owner was very friendly and helpful. We will absolutely stay here the next time we visit Iceland.

Super Lodge. Wir haben ein sehr schönes Zimmer im Haupthaus gehabt. Das Nachtessen sowie das Frühstück waren sehr gut und qualitativ top. Das Personal erlebten wir hilfsbereit und freundlich. Die Lodge ist abgelegen und über eine unbefestigte Strasse erreichbar. Für uns hat es sich aber auf jeden Fall gelohnt.

Nous sommes une famille de 5 et avons donc réservé une chambre pour 5 personnes. Il paraît ainsi logique que nous nous attendions à une chambre disposant du bon nombre de lit. Cependant la chambre n’était composée à notre que de 4 lits. Nous avons demandé au patron de l’hôtel où était la 5eme couchette et il nous a dit de dormir à trois dans un lit deux places. Cela ne correspondait aucunement à l’annonce pour laquelle nous avons réservé. De plus, nous avons quand même payé pour 5 personnes… En parallèle le soir nous avons mangé au restaurant de l’hôtel. On nous a dit de payer le lendemain matin. Que de surprise de voir qu’on nous avait également facturé un petit déjeuner jamais pris. En conclusion, les locaux sont biens il y a un jaccuzi et un sauna, la chambre était propre et spacieuse mais nous repartons quand même avec la grosse impression de s’être fait enfumé.
