St John Inn

Amazing staff that made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Great location - we were able to walk everywhere from there! The rooms were cozy and quiet, with lots of wonderful spaces to hang out. The Rum punch in the evening was a nice touch too.

To be fair, this is a Two-Star Hotel and half the price of most places on SJI, so you get what you pay for. Employees were wonderful and helpful. Even so, this property is in pretty bad disrepair. It's at about hostel accommodation level. Room was dirty, broken toilet seat, *very* old/lumpy mattress, shower that sprayed all over bathroom (cheap wrong size curtain), peeling doors, mold on air conditioner vents, and a pair of dirty socks (not ours!) beneath the dresser. Also, the property is not exactly in a scenic location. Construction right in front, an abandoned building behind, and trash pretty much all over. In general, Cruz Bay looks pretty rough with many abandoned buildings, some of which are being used as dumps, broken and nonexistent sidewalks, litter, and poor roads. Maybe still recovering from hurricanes? For an island that generates over $2 billion a year in tourism, we were surprised by the lack of repair and overall poor quality.

Staying at the St John Inn was fun. Michael and Maria the staff were very friendly and helpful! They provide a continental breakfast and serve complimentary rum punch each day on their patio. These were great times to talk to other travelers and staff about activities, restaurants etc. The hotel itself is not the standard hotel set up and its not a resort. Its an older place that has been updated. The rooms however were clean and amply furnished. Lots of vivid colors inside and out which was also kind of fun. Bed was comfortable/ TV worked fine. there is a small pool (we did not use it). It's location is walkable to to the ferry/ restaurants/ shops/ taxis etc. While you can easily walk to the ferry a cab is nice if you have much luggage. A negative is there are a lot of stairs and they are not avoidable.

We have a time share at the Westin, but wanted to extend our stay a few more days. We opted for staying downtown Cruz Bay. Michael and Maraya (sorry for misspelling) were gracious hosts. The rooms are modest and could need an updating, however , they were clean and super convenient in Downtown the the cost was very reasonable. Going from 7 days to 10 days is a huge deal. They served a breakfast of cereal, toast, muffins with coffee. They also have little coolers and accessories for the beach to borrow. The shower has the typical soap, shampoo w/ conditioner It’s walking distance to the supermarket and all the great restaurants and bars in downtown We opted to take the taxi to Cinnamon bay. It’s was a great day followed by dinner a short walk away from Morgan’s Mango

This was our 4th stay at St John Inn since 2020. We have done one night stays and multi-night stays. This time we were there for our last night of an 18 day visit so we could have a night in Cruz Bay and be close to the ferry for departure. We had to turn in a rental car so we arrived early, around 10:00 am. Courtesy rental is just a few steps away and is our go-to for rentals after many years of visiting the island. Our room was open so the office manager for the day, Fredna, accommodated our very early check-in and even offered breakfast and helped me move bags to the room. We met the property manager, Donna, who was helping guests make reservations and helping guests plan activities, even on her “day off”. All the staff was amazing and we enjoyed a day of lounging by the pool to relax after a long trip. We stayed in the Hart Bay room (111), which is a standard room that is accessed from the office area. The room was very clean. We had a mini fridge and microwave which was perfect for preparing a light lunch to eat by the pool. We have also stayed in the Honeymoon room (120), the Cruz Bay room, and the 2 BR suite with shared bath. All the rooms are unique, but consistently decorated in a colorful, Caribbean style. They also have excellent WiFi throughout the property :).

Wonderful trip to St John. The St John Inn was a great place to stay. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions on places to eat and buy food for lunches. They also gave us suggestions on beaches for snorkeling and made a wonderful rum punch for cocktail hour. A nice extra was the loaner beach equipment that made our stay perfect.
