Was on a Caravan group tour of Mexico's Copper Canyon and one of 1st nights stop was in Creel at The Lodge. We did have to disembark from the bus two blocks away as the main street to the entrance to the Lodge is being repaired. Well maybe not repaired yet as the street has all been dug up. The main street consists of many blocks of broken mud piles. You can only cross the street at the beginning and the end. But the sidewalks are good and you can find an abundance of stores on both sides of the street with all the interesting and good choices of souvenirs, and really good prices. Now for The Lodge JUST AMAZING! Loved my Rustic Chalet Cabin style. It was beautiful with all the furniture made out of wood logs. On the porch there was a wood swing. Upon entering the room the french style patio window doors are adorned with white lace curtains. Everything in the room is made from wood. The humongous bed post is made from logs of wood, the luggage rack, the table and chairs, the mirror frame. There is an open powder room that has a colorful ceramic round sink. Their is a supply of soap, hand lotion, hairdryer, magnifying mirror, kleenex, rack to hang clothes, a quilt blanket on the shelf. Just a warning the sink water was always cold! There was a safety deposit box hanging under the bathroom sink counter. The toilet and shower are just off the powder room in a closed small plain room. It is freezing in there. I guess you would have to leave the bathroom door opened to have the heat flow through. I did get hot water for my shower. Take note though the water pressure is not strong but I have been told this is expected in this part of Mexico. The heater/Fan is on the wall in the bedroom and it does blow out a lot of hot air. The part of the Lodge where the restaurant, bar and pool tables are with the same theme rustic everything made from wood. Our group had organized a dinner and musical entertainment in the Lodge restaurant that was very good. Started with Tortilla soup with lots of melted cheese. Main dish was beef soft tacos, rice and refried beans. We were warned that it was iffy to get wifi but I got it fine. There was 2 complimentary cookies in the room. And oh yes I got woken up at 4:30am with the crowing of roosters and at 7:30am with lots of dogs barking outside. I guess telling everyone it is time for breakfast as the restaurant opens up at 7:30am. I found this happening quite often hearing the roosters and dogs through my journey through the Copper Canyon. Very small choice of breakfast buffet with them serving you from the kitchen. Did not look very appealing to me but I was lucky they just put out pancakes which were very good. Don't forget to take your photo shoot of the colorful Creel sign at the end of the street near the church and park. The train station is just behind the main street across from the park.
