We received a warm and friendly welcome from both Dave and Jude where nothing was too much trouble. We loved watching the comical antics of the chickens, ducks, and cats as they play and explore the gardens where you can sit and relax. The bedroom was spacious with comfy chairs, a fridge, table and chairs, we stayed in 'Jill', where we slept really well as the bed was just so comfortable. Our evening meal was delicious, and there are plenty of options for breakfast. The nearby beach is a definite to visit, and the boat to the Farne Islands from Seahouses is a great way to see the sealife. Embers Pizza, just along the road, has an outside space where you can sit and eat your wood fired pizza and chat to the Highland cow!

We received a warm welcome to this beautiful, homely b and b. Rooms were lovely, spacious and comfortable. The food for both breakfast and evening meal was excellent. A lovely cosy lounge that you could make the use of with an open fire. A really peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Would definitely recommend this place

What a lovely find for a short break. Close to the lovely coastal path in a quiet little village. Greeted by runner ducks and hens as you come up the drive and a warm welcome awaits from the hosts. Lots of space to chill out in and the breakfasts and evening meals (optional) are excellent. Will definitely return.

The hosts are lovely people and the atmosphere is just so relaxing and peaceful. The local walks are easy and you can get on to the coastal path easily if you want longer walking. The owners do wonderful food- lamb shanks with mashed potatoes was delicious! Very relaxing to sit in lounge with lovely music and a very friendly kitty cat and beautiful real fire plus an honesty bar. What more could you want! We loved every minute. The bed room was spacious and comfortable and nice and warm. Thanks for a truly wonderful treat of a birthday weekend. Howick Hall gardens and tea shop surpassed expectations ( where the Earl Grey tea comes from!) with its fascinating history.

Lovely grounds and house. Love the animals. A kind offer to dry our boots for us overnight. Great breakfast. Option to eat dinner, packed lunch and bar are really good as there’s nothing else available nearby. Downstairs area for guests cosy and homely. Looking at pictures of other rooms, although the twin room is big, it’s not nearly as well appointed as others. Stained carpet, basic pine beds, one of which creaks and a bathroom that was a bit shabby across a landing with two sets of stairs were disappointing. We also left in the morning with our shoes still wet so we didn’t get the Jude n Dave treatment others talk about!

What a lovely place to stay after a day's cycling. David and Jude are fabulous hosts and, after we tucked our bikes away, we settled into a gorgeous room to relax before enjoying a cocktail (what a treat) followed by dinner. If the couple ever decided to start a restaurant we'd be there in a flash. So delicious...breakfast too. Can't recommend highly enough.

We enjoyed four nights at the Old Rectory in July. We chose it as a base for a cycling holiday as there was plenty of secure storage for bikes and Howick is in a fabulous position right on the coast and castles cycle route. Also Howick Hall is just a walk away and well worth at least one visit for the pots of tea and egg sandwiches, not to mention the beautiful gardens. The hosts at the Old Rectory couldn't have made us feel any more welcome. We loved our sumptuous room (Jack) with windows on two sides, one of which looked out onto the sea. The room was big enough to accommodate a roomy seating area and the bathroom had everything we needed. Jude very kindly left us a cafeteria and a Northumberland brand of ground coffee which we enjoyed every evening after dinner. There was oodles of choice at breakfast and we would especially recommend the omelettes. There are a couple of pubs nearby for food but nothing could compete with the home cooked evening meals at the Rectory. Absolutely superb, particularly when served up with a chilled bottle of Sauvignon Blanc! We had the lamb one night and the salmon en papier on another. All utterly delicious, good value and we had a tiny bit of room left for the delicious and interesting puddings. We will definitely visit again. The chickens and cats and relaxed ambience made this place unbeatably charming and unique.
