We just stayed at Villa Alfonsina in Coyoacan for the second time, and it will be our first choice for lodging in CDMX from now on. I've been a fan of Frida Kahlo since I was young, so I was drawn to this location because it is right across the street from Casa Azul. As I walk around the neighborhood, I am aware that she and Diego walked the very same streets. There's a sense of history. Coyoacan is my favorite CDMX neighborhood. It's very safe, cozy and fun. There are two mercados, lots of parks, and really great places to eat and drink. The house itself is in a perfect spot because it's walled off from the street and feels like a little oasis inside, with a lovely courtyard and gorgeous architecture. It's two blocks from the busier area, so it's very quiet at night, but within an easy walk to everything, and about a $5 Uber ride to most of the main tourist destinations within the city. The hosts are warm and friendly; a family who has restored this home, which they live in, and added rooms for guests that are contemporary and have great amenities, but still have the charm of a historic home. Internet is good, there are streaming services, lots of outlets and triple-filtered water that is drinkable from the faucet and hot from the shower. I'm clicking "not sure" for whether there were mask requirements, but we all wore masks or stood apart outside when we interacted, and it was clear that the staff are conscientious about covid safety.
