An Chúirt Hotel, Gweedore, Donegal

We got a very good deal ( hence the 3 stars!), so we stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in mid-March. The room - a family room - was large and comfortable, but strangely - for a 4 star hotel - had no safe, mini-bar or fridge. The staff on reception seemed puzzled when we asked why these facilities are not provided. The hotel is well located in the Gweedore area, ideal as a base for touring around. But the biggest disappointment was the 'award-winning' Health Club, which seemed more a local community centre, than a hotel asset. It hosted swimming lessons for children every weekday afternoon, whilst school parties used the pool in the mornings. No advance warning is given of this; you discover only when you arrive at the pool. Staff did say later that only 2 swimming lanes are used by the children, but that is 50% of the pool. The changing rooms are also very unsatisfactory: the floors soaked in water and general untidiness and mess. Overall, not the premier, relaxing experience one expects from a 4 star hotel. We did not have breakfast, so cannot comment on the cuisine. But overall, it was not the 4 star experience which we expected, but seemed reasonable for the price.

A great stay with wonderful views of Errigal and a real Gaeltacht experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious and Fara Ógs has a big range of nice food. A large pool that has both family friendly and adult sections. Petting zoo was great too. A variety of animals.

Wonderful stay! Highly recommended! Friendly staff, lovely dinner and breakfast. Beautiful views. Will definitely return. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated, with a comfortable bed that guaranteed a great night’s sleep. Thoughtful touches, like complimentary bottled water and high-quality toiletries, made the stay even more enjoyable. I also had a stunning view from my window, which added to the charm of the experience.

Having stayed at this hotel four to five times before, we have always enjoyed the great food, friendly staff, and lovely atmosphere. However, this visit left us somewhat disappointed. Upon arrival, we had to wait at reception to check in while the receptionist was on the phone. We made eye contact, so they were aware of our presence. However, when a party of four arrived after us, the receptionist, after finishing the call, chose to check them in first instead of attending to us. This was frustrating, as we had been waiting for about ten minutes. Fortunately, another staff member arrived five to six minutes later and completed our check-in smoothly. Since we had prepaid via another provider, everything was quickly done. The real disappointment came when we entered our room. Unlike our previous stays, this room was extremely small and not suitable for double occupancy. There was no ceiling light, only two small lamps, which made reading impossible due to the poor lighting. The bathroom lighting was appropriate, but the main room lacked proper illumination. Space was another major issue. There was little walking room, and no adequate space to store our luggage. If we used the chair for our bags, we had no seat to sit on. Additionally, when I sat on the chair, my husband couldn’t access the drawers. This was a stark contrast to our previous experiences, where we enjoyed the luxurious feel of the hotel. Overall, while the hotel still maintains its great food, friendly staff, and charming atmosphere, this particular stay was disappointing due to the reception issue and the subpar room. We hope this was just a one-off experience and that future visits will reflect the high standards we have come to expect from this hotel.

What a wonderful 2 night stay. The hotel is just beautiful, the staff are so friendly and we had a great stay. Based in a location with the most amazing view of Mount Errigal. The bedrooms are spacious, comfortable beds and a great shower. We used the swimming pool and facilities, which the kids loved. I used the gym, 3 different places to work out. We stayed with friends and they are keen to go back soon. The breakfast was good too. We were able to go for dinner to the restaurant beside the hotel. We sat in the lounge area and played board games we brought with us. What more can I say, but we will be back!

A beautiful hotel, the room was very comfortable and big with a really comfy bed,check in was quick and the staff were excellent, food was beautiful as was the breakfast, location is absolutely stunning and very peaceful. A great base if you like hiking or sightseeing also its only a 15 minute drive from the airport.
