We stayed one night in this beautiful hotel while on tour with Driftwood (Vagabond) Small Group Tours of Ireland. What an iconic setting at lakefront with a quaint church across the lake. We were greeted as we entered by Neil the proud owner. Our room was spacious and neatly appointed. The bar is cozy with plenty of seats for easy conversation. Dinner menu and setting were as special as the location of this lovely hotel. This is a place to relax and refresh your soul. We were sorry to leave but knew that this was just the beginning of many wonderful experiences ahead for us in Ireland. Thank you Gougane Barra for welcoming memories.

On the last night of an 11 day tour with Vagabond Tours, we had the immense pleasure to stay at Gougane Barra Hotel. Our stay was exceptional in every way. The hotel and adjoining properties with the church, lake, cemetery are all peaceful and stunning. Neil, Katy and their team welcomed us and we felt like family during our stay. The grounds has a roadway to allow for a relaxing walk to explore the church and nearby areas. The entire hotel is in superb condition, retaining its generational charm with freshened decor. The service and food were remarkable. Most if not all of the food is farm to table, and sourced the day we arrived. Dinner was truly one of the most outstanding meals we’ve had at any top restaurant. Wonderful full breakfast with more fresh, elevated and perfectly prepared offerings. Our only disappointment was that we couldn’t stay longer!

The location is magical. Lake view with cliffs, adorable chapel, holy well, I was awe struck as it was my first day in Ireland. The hotel itself is a mixture of good, excellent and not so good. Food at restaurant is excellent although pricey, little pub/bar is adorable with good bartender, rooms are small with old doors with an actual old fashion key lock that is hard to use. Bathroom was modern and remodeled. The common sitting areas are a little creepy like your great grandmothers living room and of course the creepy dolls across from the front desk.

I left a part of my heart and soul at the Gougane Barra Hotel. The setting was spectacular, complete with its own small chapel and lake on the grounds. We were in Ireland for a week, and it was by far the best meal (dinner and breakfast) we had during our tour. Finally, the owners and operators couldn't be more kind and humble - and funny. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would be booking back here pronto!

Our last night on the road, at the end of an 11 day tour of Ireland. And what a capstone!! Wonderful hotel, gorgeous location, comfortable rooms and five star cuisine. Our hosts were the best and are very invested in their Irish roots and giving you the best, freshest ingredients on your plate. Do NOT hesitate to stay here!!

My 3rd night already.... cosy rooms, dinner, breakfast, bar....just perfect! I love this place with the lake, the forest with stunning views, nice walks and the owners are absolutely lovely! I will try to practice at least the sentences in irish we recieved from Neil, enjoyed the kitchenchief's Kathie's delicious meals... Can't wait to go back, hopefully next year again- on tour with Vagabond!

What a gem. We stayed only one night and it was lovely. The property has been run by the same family for generations. They seem to have a lot of regular customers. Authentic, rural, peaceful, views of the lake and sheep from our room. Neil and staff were so gracious and the food was excellent. The drive from the hotel to Kenmare is gorgeous!

The Gougane Barra hotel is a wonderful place and my husband and I are so delighted we stayed there. From the moment we arrived we were made feel so welcome. The staff everywhere were friendly, and professional. The bedroom was lovely and we had a wonder view of the lake. The food is among the best we have enjoyed in sometime. Everything was local and you get a full list of where each item comes from. Dinner and breakfast were so good with wide choices to choose from. In short this is one very special place. Congrats to the hands on owners, Niall & Katie..You run a great show👏👏👏 Will be back 🙏

Wonderful Hotel run by caring hosts. All meals were out of this world. The entire experience is calm, beautiful and life enhancing. The rooms were immaculate and the atmosphere in and out of the Hotel was like a dream of Ireland come true. All members of the staff combined to make our stay memorable.
