Rodeen Country House

First the positives. The owners are delightful and welcoming. And the gardens are gorgeous. The setting and view is great and it is very quiet. Then the less positive. The breakfast is ok. Lovely to have fresh melon, but for 130 euro or so, I hoped for better than frozen supermarket sliced bread, mini packets of cereal, supermarket cake and plastic mini sachets of jam. We rented the ' suite' which was 2 pretty small rooms and a very small bathroom with a poorly fitting sliding door. The decorations seemed tired, mostly beige and gray and bet curtains making the flatlet seem rather dark and claustrophobic. It felt very dated But the hardest thing to take was a strong and offensive smelling chemical deodorant that permeated the whole flatlet. We suspect it came from the toilet. We couldn't get rid of it. For what we paid we expected better. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't recommend it to others either.

I stayed here with my sister-in-law. What a great choice! We were met at the door by the wonderful Phillipe and Sophie who welcomed us like old friends and took our bags. To say we immediately at home is an understatement. We felt as if we had our own private concierge in Phillipe and received nothing but 5* treatment for our entire stay. The fire was built up for us each evening, we were given maps of the area as well as great local info on interesting sites. However sitting in the beautiful gardens was just as relaxing. We old girls enjoyed some wine each evening - even this was taken care of by Phillipe who opened and poured for us. Both Vera and I cannot recommend Rodeen more. We have stayed in many B&B's, hotels and guesthouses in Ireland & abroad

L'accueil et le charme de Rodeen Country House nous ont séduits. Le jardin et les vues de Rodeen en font un site exceptionnel. Les conseils des hôtes nous ont permis de découvrir la péninsule de Beara qui vaut le coup d'oeil.
