Occasion : we telephoned enroute fro messed to Cambs. To get an impromptu lunch at a pub I’ve visited previously ( when owned / managed by the Olivers ) and now knew it was part of the Chesbut group, a chain I’ve again previously visited and had excellent experiences On arrival at 2pm, we were shown to a table next to a young family with children, very very screaming load children where parents weren’t asking them to be quiet So we asked politely to be moved A gentleman then showed us to a table in the area behind the bar, al seemed good But within a few minutes the group immediately behind us expanded to a lot larger group with young children. :-(. That would have been ok as they weren’t excessively noisy. But… the children then started to play as a group on the floor in the walkway immediately behind my chair My wife and I decided to leave. A young waitress saw us stand and leave and I explained the reason why we were leaving My understanding is the Cricketers is a pub / restaurant NOT a crèche or a child’s bedroom / play area or living room When I got home I wrote to the chefs it group and I received a reply from Genevieve to say they couldn’t control how parents ‘parent’ And was sorry we didn’t have a good time I din’t agree with this response and advised it was the pub and its staff responsibility at worse, health and safety that children shouldn’t be playing on floors in public walkways or immediately behind other patrons seats The Cricketers don’t agree and.said they did all they could and my complaints were beyond anything within their control I am not complaining that there were children in the establishment of course not, and I even said on day, if that’s the approach the pub took for Sundays to be a family establishment so be it but on this occasion too noisy and too many children not being controlled so we left I can’t judge the food as we never had any, but since writing to the cricketers, I would have said that on this occasion they had let us down and they should have spoken to the parents who’s children were playing on the floor behind us. But they say this isn’t in their control or can’t tell parents how to parent ? If we were to revisit it most definitely won’t be on a Sunday lunchtime Other pubs in the group have been far far better
