My wife and I stayed 3 nights, arriving at 3PM, picked up by the owner, Nigel, from the XCH Airport. He nicely narrated the 9km drive which included a loop through the small Flying Fish Cove seafront. At his complex, he led a practical tour of our prepaid 2 bedroom apartment; -Washing room with toilet room to the side, -Hall to a tiled shower room and a door to an unused bedroom. -A fully outfitted kitchen with utensils, cookware and a fan. -A dining/lounge room with 2 couches, table with 4 chairs, large TV(good reception of ~20 channels), decent secure WIFI, AC with remote, many outlets, 2 fans and even a single bed. -A side door opened to a comfortable queen with a closet, small AC unit and a fan. -A back door opened to a concrete patio with chairs, then a table with chairs on a turfed garden. At first it all seemed disjointed but we became comfortable with the separate areas where moisture could dissipate while living/sleeping in the controlled cool environment. While the overall building condition is little changed from the 60’s, it is clean, quiet with quick hot water and drinkable tap water, all assets to be appreciated on this remote island. 200m southwest is the Island Supermarket with a wonderful selection of foods including a large walk in cold room with fruit, veggies and cheeses. We walked 800m northeast on the paved coastal path and 2km southwest to the former British Administrator’s Residence with asylum memorials, a WW11 6” gun and an overall view of the old phosphate works. Nigel’s neighbor provided a car($57) to visit the Territory Day Park, the National Park, the Margaret Knoll Lookout & the Grotto.
