Sonder Jewelers Row Apartments Millenium Park

Everything was well organized. The unit was a renovated urban apartment with a well stocked kitchen. The bathroom and amenities were good. The bed was just ok comfortable. WiFi was good. All instructions were correct so that it was very easy to get in. As other have said however the train runs right in front of the hotel. If you are in the back then there are dumpsters or some other loud metal objects in the alley which are even louder than the train. While not their fault this is sort of a hard place to stay unless you are up all night, not much of a sleeper or such a deep sleeper than nothing can wake you up. Were it not for this, it would be an awesome place.

1- I booked well in advance. I needed to cancel last minute and they kept $540 or 90% of the cost. Which was fine. However within an hour I was able to reinstate . They wouldn’t do but wanted me to rebook and pay the full rental on top of the $540 I already paid. Or basically pay double for my rental I had just an hour ago. Shameful

THE NOISE IS ATROCIOUS FROM THE TRAINS. Our party of 3 have not been able to sleep all night with the constant noise of trains. The noise decibels from the trains is unbearable and unhealthy. We are booked into 401 and hereby request a room change or at very least a refund for our last 2 nights of stay, We came the whole way from Australia to pick up our sick son and return him to Australia so he and we all need our sleep and this accommodation is not suitable. I also had a chat session through your app last night but got no satisfactory answer to our complaint.

No AC!!! Our room was unbearably hot. The units are all set to heat or AC. So, if you stay in April (which the owner still considers to be winter) you only have the option for heat, not AC. We were given two fans and told to open the windows. The only windows are in the living room and face dead space in between buildings, so outside air is not able to cool the unit. This was my first experience at a Sonder. After reading every review I could find, I was optimistic. Upon first impression, I found the units to be nice and roomy. The layout is good. Everything was as expected except for the temperature in the room. The listings on the Sonder website and other hotel sites clearly indicate that the Sonder at Jewelers Row has AC. Well, it only does if the owner actually turns the hvac system in the building to AC instead of heat.

We've stayed in numerous Sonder hotels and they seem to all be managed differently. Pros: Excellent downtown central location. Comfortable beds and plenty of kitchenware. Cons: No 'essentials' cupboard that most Sonders have, any supplies need to be requested via the app and delivered to your room. Cleanliness wasn't great - I do not fault housekeeping for this as I assume they are not given enough time. However management should reduce the room price or hire more cleaners so their rooms are properly cleaned. (In my photos is the bedframe covered in dust and hair, windows covered in dust, lint pulled from dryer (granted this is due to lazy previous guests) wet wipe used to clean the washing machine and loose door handles) *Things to note: Hotel shares building with cigar LOUNGE (not solely a shop as disclosed on Sonder website) so active smoking all day all week. Whether you like cigar smell is individual but be aware it will be in the lobby, elevator, halls and some rooms. I wish the hotel would list reduced priced rooms for those affected by the smell. Likewise some rooms are located next to the L train and it's very loud. Again it's personal preference if this bothers you. Personally we hated the cigar smell and asked to move rooms, and were placed next to the L train which we don't mind. (Still couldn't open the windows though due to cigar smell coming in) Wouldn't stay again as price not justified for quality of hotel. We found Chicago extremely safe and walkable so would prefer to stay somewhere else and not pay for central location.
